Hello there

Would anyone be able to recommend an installer for a Dension Gateway 500 in North London, Beds, Bucks, Herts area? Is going in my 05 987S with PCM.

Many thanks
A

Try Auto Audio in Park Royal NW London:: Google says they are at 32-34 Park Royal Road, London , NW10 7LN Tel: 020 8838 8838.

Hi

I'm going to collect my Boxster S on the 28/04 and I definitely want to be able to use my iPod in it. I'm in Twickenham. Called AutoAudio (http://www.autoaudio.uk.com/) today as they were recommended by the OPC and the installation is £499 + VAT ! Considering the Dension Gateway 500 is £279.97 (http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/) I'd say they're not cheap [X(]
Will try to get a quote from these guys http://www.incar-installer.com/

The quickest, cheapest and non-permanent solution would be to get an FM transmitter (perfectly legal now) but I don't know how good they are and which one is recommended. The gadget show did a test on this some time ago and I think one was a clear winner over the rest...

FM transmitters are poor (from my experience). A full integrated solution gives a better sound and charge your ipod at the same time. The good point with FM transmitters is that they're significantly cheaper and the installation is not an issue.

sorry to revive a slightly old thread.... I recently bought a boxster 550 spyder and have PCM2 in it.

Is Dension Gateway 500 the way to go for my car?
If yes, where is the best / cheapest way to get one?
If no, what device should i use?

Finally, will this instalation affect the 1 year porsche warranty that i have on the car? (say my PCM2 goes pop, am i covered or not?)

Regards,
Eric.

PCM units are not covered by any extended warranty, only by the original factory one. IF the PCM goes pop you'll be looking at £1500-£2000k for a replacement or £165 for a TomTom [&:]

I personally cvannot see the point of paying out £500 to listen to sound from an inferior audio source - you might as well record MP3 discs to play in the headunit.

Really, a boxster 986s PCM2 can read MP3' s?
Is it only the headunit or the CDC-4 charger too?
I bought the car in germany and only have the German manual...
I have not had a chance to even try that.
If it is the case, well yeah i will play it this way!!

Eric.

Ok, got the Dension Gateway 500 installed today. Sound is excellent. User interface could be better but it does the job. Note that you lose the CD changer unless you deactivate the gw500, switch off the PCM, wait for 30s then switch it back on (obviously the iPod is then inaccessible until you reactivate the gw500). Not a problem considering I've got all the music I want on my 80GB iPod :)
The deactivation switch is also used during servicing to avoid having their check tools reporting an error on the MOST ring.
Took 2h to install and £80.

Did you realise there are DIY installation instructions on the Dension website at
http://www.dension.com/fileok/IceLink_Gateway500_MOST_install_manual_web.pdf

Yes I know. It's just the DIY part in an expensive car with no tools that worried me :) plus not wanting to piss away many hours fiddling with the wires!

Do you have the PCM LCD screen or the basic text display which is part of the head unit?
Will the Gateway 500 generate useful menus on both I wonder?

I have the PCM LCD screen.
The GW 500 generates menus but the navigation is quite slow and it's not really pretty (at least if you compare to the menus/navigation on the iPod itself) but it does the job and the sound is excellent.
