recommended fluids - opinion

Engine Oil - Without starting another debate on synthetic or not, 0W or not, I am settling on Silkolene XTR Semi-Synth 10W-40 for my turbo. Anybody use this

Gearbox - Just changed my gearbox Oil with Motoquip Semi-Synth 75W-90 syntrac oil. Had to buy a jumbo Allen key set for it (think it was 27mm or something)

However was going to now change the coolant when I return from work in a week or so. However have got confused about whats best to put in. Am I safe to assume that any ethylene glycol anitfreeze marked safe for aluminium alloy engines is ok. Or is there a specific type I should be putting in cause I remember something about making sure its phosphate free or something. Also is system as hard to bleed as it is made out to be in places on the web, or is it not too bad if you are methodical.

As a wee aside, whats are my options in terms of exhausts. Thinking of changing my original one for a more free flowing one, or am I wasting my time since porsche exhaust are renowned for being very high quality and well designed. Want a slightly fruiter sound but nothing that going to annoy on a long run. Cheers for any advice

 
Anti-freeze must be phosphate free, but virtually all the good stuff is these days. Phone some quality car outlets (BMW, Merc, Audi, VW) etc - you might be surprised at the price. I bought 5l of Audi pink anti-freeze for the same price as Halfords sell their stuff.

Interesting, I thought they took blue/green? I certainly use blue/green in mine.

Perhaps it can take either, but they shouldn't be mixed.

They can be troublesome to bleed but if you make sure the front of the car is a lot higher than the rear it is easier, and don't fill the system up too quickly.

The front silencer (or cat depending on year) is quite restrictive to our Turbo cars. Simply having this cut out and replaced with a straight pipe will yield a noticeabe difference to the spool up and a slightly fruitier noise without being loud or droney. The best value rear box that looks standard is a Dansk stainless steel from Bert and others for around £160. For even fruitier options the sky is the limit for huge tailpipes and no rear box depending on your prefence:

Thanks guy, so I am probably cool using any modern decent antifreeze for car, are they usually marked phosphate free anyway. Diver thanks for links as I hadnt seen much on demon tweeks for exhausts so will have a look at these links. Picked up loads off this website so far so thanks for all help.
