Recommended independents in London?

I have a 1994 993 cab that I have had for 7 years which has always been serviced by OPC's. Until recently my local OPC in East London would offer discounted labour rates - 25% off but have now discontinued this practise as they are so busy that they don't need to discount. I have developed a potential clutch/gear selection problem so I am in search of a good independent service agent in London asap. Has anyone got any recommendations? The closest independent agent that I have discovered is Tower Bridge Porsche - has anyone had any experience of these chaps?

I don't know about Tower Bridge, but I can recommend GT-One in Chertsey. May be a little further, but good people.

I have been using Chelsea Carrera on Seagrave Road in, errr, Fulham for the last three years and have been very happy with them indeed. Have also used Charles Ivey near Putney Bridge who are also good but expensive. Would not use Tower Bridge (I have my reasons !). Have also heard good reports of RGA under the railway arches at Vauxhall.

Mark ,
check out the clutch problem thread before getting your clutch done , may just be a "hanging clutch pedal"

Thanks. The problem which I spoke to Maurice about last night is that the the gear shift is sticking i.e. not wanting to release particularly when changing down gears like from 3rd to 2nd. There are no problems changing up only down. The clutch is about 43000 miles old plus I had the pedal bushes? done a couple of years back when the clutch pedal had a tendency to stick to the floor. It has been suggested that it might be the differential needle bearing whose cage has a tendency to break up and get lodged in the gear selectors or it could be the clutch plate itself. Either way gearbox or clutch it sounds like I should be returning all my xmas presents and getting a refund.

I have used Jaz in Wembley for a few years and found Steve Winter to be very knowledgeable and very fair. Well worth a call, he did the clutch on my brothers 993 C2S recently and it was very good, he is also good with gearboxes.

Worth a try if it isn't too far.

thanks for this.
I have also had JZ Machtech suggested to me. Does anyone have any experience of these chaps?

Mark,

JZ Machtech are in Kings Langley, just off the M25 north of Watford. They are very good but are not the cheapest - particularly on parts prices. They DO know what they're doing though and I've never heard anybody criticise them. They're also very helpful - like a free lift/pickup from the nearby railway station and they do have loan cars if you're stuck.

Dave

I used Tower Porsche for the service of my 3.2 last year before I sold it, and they done a really good job. There were a few bits and bobs that needed doling and she was running the best she ever had done for three years. As I work in London it easy to drop the car off and walk to work in the City.

I would definately use them again.
