Reconditioned water pump?

aprotogerellis

New member
Hi there,

I'm urgently looking for a new waterpump for my 944 turbo, reconditioned if possible - any ideas?

Many many thanks,
Alex

Usual suspects.

I'd happily recommend Max at Frazerpart (http://www.frazerpart.com/) as he is good and reliable and offers very good service.

Alternatively you could try Bert at Berlyn as he posts on here occasionally and has good technical advice.

Or ECP/GSF etc.

Oli.

I'm a bit bored so:

Bert has them listed at £155 at the moment
ECP is £177.10
Design911 is £104.95
Type911 is £120
Can't find it GSF car parts [&:]

Paul,

Thanks for this.

I'm contemplating a new dizzy cap and rotor arm, and possibly some HT leads as well. Not for any particular reason, just that I am aware mine are not as new as they could be and I can always put the old ones on a shelf and keep them if the new ones don't make any difference.

Can you find prices on these for me please? Thanks.

While you are at it, I am sure my clutch is getting thin. A spare would be helpful, after all I can't drive to the local motor factor to buy a new one if the clutch is not working, can I? (Perils of only owning one car, eh?) Comparative prices on one of these would be most helpful.

I also noticed that my beloved bottle of Dalmore Malt is getting quite low. Can I buy a replacement on-line? Or do I need to go all the way to Inverness-shire to get another one? Best price, please!

Oh, and I am about to make some new wardrobe doors for the bedroom at home, and thinking about building a new kitchen. I need a router for both of these jobs, and have been told that the Bosch 2000w item is the one to go for. Where is the cheapest place to get one of these?

And I wouldn't mind a fresh cup of tea either! (But am likely to get a thump in the mouth, at a guess!)

Many thanks!

Oli.

Well I've made the cup of tea you cheeky begger, but it's going a bit cold now so it looks like you owe me the bacon butty at the next meet now :ROFLMAO:

No, Paul, I should have explained. I was expecting the bacon butty, delivered, with the cuppa tea (milk, so sugar, stirred anticlockwise.) [;)]

Tsk! Call this a forum? What sort of forum is it if the mods can;t even bring you a cup of char while you surf? []

Oli. (Is actually quite relieved he avoided the thump in the mouth ... )

I'm looking for a house but the trawling through the adverts, arguing with the agents and going on all these viewings is tedious. As you two don't seem busy you could help....[8|]

Ah! The other moderator! Where's my cup of tea then? [:D] *

On a different (and serious) note, that price list posted by Paul is interesting. I always had ECP down as cheap suppliers, although they are the most expensive on that list.

Who are Design911, and are they any good? Does their price include VAT? They are less than 60% of the ECP price ...

Oli.

* - For the avoidance of doubt, this is a joke, and hopefully doesn't infringe the first rule of web forums too much, that being "Never, ever, upset the mods." Please don't ban me. Hope you find a lovely house very soon Paul. <GrovelABitMore.>

All those prices are excluding the VAT and are specifically for a turbo water pump (as that's what Alex needs). It's often quite interesting to see how fluid some parts prices are and thats where the old internet comes in real useful to see who currently has the best price. Sometimes you do get what you pay for though as I have had trouble with Design911 and Type911 in the past getting the exact part for the exact model you want first time. That's why I'm often happy to pay a few quid more for someone who knows what he's talking about [:)]

Paul,

Thanks. Design911 and Type911 (similar names - are they connected?) are suppliers I occasionally come across, but know nothing about. However, I have heard grumbles here (and elsewhere) about some suppliers not being great at shipping the right stuff, so it's interesting to know that these fit into this category.

Oli.

The price differences are interesting. Went to ECP to order rear discs and pads for a 996 (usually get most of my stuff from them) and it would have been £188.28 delivered(although this was going for the £15 dearer Sebro discs than the out of stock Eicher ones).
Bert was £156.82, and I am assuming his discs are OEM or Sebro (the picture of the disc has the grey painted hat).
Anyone any experience of the Eicher discs btw?
Have used Bert before on three or four occasions, mostly for ATE caliper refurb kits and once for a brake master cylinder. He has some useful bits and pieces, couldn't find the caliper refurb kits anywhere else, including a couple of usually useful local motor factors.

Design911 site today says £149.50 ?

Thanks a lot guys...

I ended up contacting all of them and a few more. Seems like the price they list is irrelevant. When I asked them they said the price has gone up. It now ranges from 140 to 150 incl. VAT, so not much of a difference...

Alex

yeah thats cute .They probably know what their competitors are charging. Either that or they make the price up when you ring them . They probably hope that once you've rung you'll not bother going elsewhere []

Make prices up ... I can believe that.

When I was hunting for some front struts for my S2 (I wanted knackered ones as I was rebuilding them with Koni inserts (I called a well-known breaker, and asked about them. I was told £40 for the pair.

I called the same breaker that afternoon, and spoke with someone else, who told me "Oh, they're popular, we had someone call about them this morning. They're £85 mate."

Needless to say, no sale was made ...

Oli.

You can appreciate that with a breaker though as there is no set price for any particular component.

I remember when Turbo water pumps were £100 from an OPC. Any body thought of trying an OPC? Sometimes they are cheaper.
