I Have a 2004 986, the alarm functions with the top down. Just have to lean in over the window and off it goes.

Good morning Porsche fans, hope you’re all safe and well, albeit you can’t go for long drives in your beloved cars, essential journeys only.
I own a 2004 Boxter S (986) and wondered if anyone had purchased a Red Clip, which clips into the roof latch once you have the top down and apparently allows the alarm to function.
Has anyone purchased one of these and do they work.
Keep Safe

I think you'll find the clip on the shelf in Halfords next to Sky Hooks, Spirit Level bubbles and a long weight.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your non-sarcastic reply (unlike others), I have just checked by leaning into the locked car and the alarm does not sound, I had seen the Red Clip online and it said that the clip allows the system to fully arm, once installed.

I had read somewhere that on later 987 models that the system should fully arm when the top is down and the car is locked, the only other explanation is that there’s a problem with my alarm system.

It originally came with the speedster humps to disable the roof mechanism whilst they were fitted so that the owner didn't damage the roof. The additional side effect was that it re-enabled the alarm motion sensor. It was never offered as a 987 part because Porsche discontinued the speedster humps when they brought out the 987.

The part number is: 98650498600

Thanks Nick, it’s not an expensive part, so I’ll order one, that said, can’t go anywhere as the whole of the UK is in lockdown.
