Red White of Blue Cars Only

I received an e-mail from HQ thanking me for my booking for this years festival and enquiring if I would like to exhibit on the Register display........assuming that my car was red, white or blue.

My reply was as follows:-

[FONT=courier new"]Dear Louisa Harvey,[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]Thank you for your e-mail.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]To be quite honest, as the owner of a black car, I am a little insulted by the selection of only red/white/blue cars for the Register displays.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=courier new"]My car "Beaky" is one of perhaps 25 300+ bhp 944's in the country - (maybe less than 20 within the Club). It isn't immaculate, or of concourse standard because it is owned to be enjoyed and driven. However, "Beaky" is recognized by a good number of 944 owners.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]I accept that it is probably high time others "had a chance" to be on the stands but is it not equally important to have enthusiastic people on the stand who will provide interesting cars and talk to potential new members?[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]I further note that Paul Smith (944 Asst Reg Sec) should have his 3.2 ltr conversion complete prior to the festival. A car of significant interest but not eligible for display because it is the wrong colour.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]In short, selection of cars by colour is an appalling concept, based on no other issue than aesthetics and has no bearing on the celebration of great cars. I have every confidence that the field will look lovely in the pictures but will equally position the Club for ridicule as a result.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=courier new"]"What car has your boy friend got Sharon?"[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=courier new"]"I don't know but it's really nice - It's red."[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=courier new"]What a lot of nonsense![FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I went out to the garage to tell "Beaky" what had happened and he said

"Is it 'cos I is black?"

Do what I did and buy a blue one as well - ya skinflint [;)]

well at least I think she's blue - my memory aint that good [:D]

Hi John,

I think this is only for the special display of a red, white and blue example of each model.

As far as I know there is no restriction on cars in the main Register displays other than numbers.

Just a thought, what colour is Jasper [;)]

Good call..... he's blue. And if you run short of white cars we could bring Fifi.

Mr Smith did offer to spray Beaky's wing mirrors blue. I'm not sure if this was a special service our about as close a colour match as he usually achieves. [:D]

Some have suggested that there might be both a red, white and blue display and a less apartheid register display. Well they shouldn't send out ambiguous e-mails to simple people, otherwise I'm bound to get the wrong end of the stick.

I'll do one blue, one red and your bumpers white if you like. Then Mr Mcnulty will only need to find one car for our part of the display [:D]

Well concidering people dislike both GP white cars and Gaurds red, 2/3 of the cars will ignored.

It seems that I not only bought the wrong model of Porsche (yudder yudder 944 = VW) but I bought the one welped from the hind teat too (the poxy 'S' that plays dead until 200rpm before the rev limiter). So its a small victory (extremely small) that I have more of a chance of getting on the display than a 400bhp turbo in silver.

Well, what did I say?

I have received various mutiple copy e-mails from many luminaries within the Club not least of whom a Mr Newton.

Obviously I missread the e-mail (well it is obvious now)

"If you are interested in these areas, please forward your details as
follows:-
1) Register and Red/White/Blue displays: Angie Pinchin and Barry
Smith:
angie@porscheclubgb.com
and barys@porsche.fsworld.co.uk ; tel 01608 652 911
2) Concours Competitions: Sue McCorkell and Phil Clark:
cluboffice@porscheclubgb.com
and philclarktpc300@hotmail.com ;tel 01608 652 911"

It just goes to show how important "and"s are. And more important that you read every word.

What can I say ....Sorry.....I'll get me coat.

I still think colour coordinated displays is a bit of a girly thing to do though [;)]
