Redex or not

My other car (sounds like a bumper sticker) is a golf gti t and recently there was a warning light on. By chance i filled it with the BP 98 RON petrol with the additives and the light went off. This got me thinking and when the light came on again and i put redex in the tank. Lo and behold the light went off. Maybe this is coincidence but i've been wondering about this redex stuff. Is it similar to what is in the shell and BP premium petrols? If so would you use it in the boxster s 2003 engine for a random clean??

All opions welcome
Happy motoring

Redex is just an upper cylinder lubricant and a throw back to days gone by, leave it where it should be ---- in the 1970s. It has no usefull purpose - its just oil, doesnt clean a thing -- a bottle of hype

Your boxster S 2003 engine is designed to run on Shell V-power (98 RON) fuel.
If you use the cheap (e.g.Tesco) fuel then your ECM will back off your timing to stop pinking (knocking) and you will lose power..[;)]
Also with Shell V-power you may get better MPG, which offsets the extra cost of the fuel.
I just drive faster..[8D]

Tesco have 99RON fuel these days. Although cheaper, because of it's Ethanol content, it actually has a higher RON rating that V-Power or the BP stuff. So the ECU won't back off.

V-Power is also 99 RON in the UK (It varies throughout Europe)

France is 98 and Germany is 100; think the 99 was thanks to Tesco 99, so make sure you keep the competition alive...

Edit: actually leave the Tesco99 for the Japanese cars, they get a lot more performance out of it than we do...

Anyone read anything about the Tesco stuff? Performance figures etc? Any good?

I get poor mileage with Tesco on city use; Motorway mileage seems similar to V-Power.

Performance wise not felt any difference with 95, 98, 99, tesco99, V-Power, Optimax, BP Ultimate, etc but on my brother's Honda Accord Type-R the Tesco99 is like it has had a steroid jab.

Sorry, got mixed up, Shell V-power is 99RON, it used to be 98.[:)]
Didn't know Tesco sell 99RON, not been there for years...
