Redex - Worth it

At this years service whilst having new spark plugs fitted the specialist independant I use who is highly regarded suggested that at near 120k miles on the clock even with the new plugs redex would help keep the heads clean and aid running.

Certainly shortly afterwards in the Alps she howled round the hairpins very nicely and before anyone else asks the car went well as well ! [:D]

How was it applied? Did he simply add to the tank or pour a little into the head via the plugs.

Used it in the 80's in old Fords but was never really convinced........

have been told the only useful additive on a high mileage aircooled engine is the Worth injector cleaner, have never used it, or any other additive as my engine is low miles, and I use Shell Nitro, which we are advised contains all kinds of engine conditioners, so we don't benefit from the use of additives.I also used all those medicine man concoctions back in the day, when we had horrible smelly old engines, don't think they did any good then , and my opinion has not changed.

Was added to the tank, I was a bit dubious about it, but at least didnt think it could do any harm and so it hasnt. V difficult to tell the difference in running as the plugs were changed at the same time.

I would guess that the need to clear carbon deposits in the first place arises from the type of mileage that a car does, eg round town at low revs (more carbon build up) or out on the open road and revved freely (less carbon build up)[8|]

I find best way to clear out anything causing a perceived drop in power is a large dose of 98 octane at 6500rpm. The car is definitely a little less spritely if used around town for a couple of weeks without being allowed to stretch her legs on the open road. A couple of red lines fixes it.[:D][:D]

stretch her legs on the open road.

Yes... If you just toodle around normally, they definitely need a regular dose of enthusiastic right foot[;)] to keep them feeling fit[:D]
