Region 10 - 2004 Programme

I am currently trying to assemble the main calender for the Region in 2004. To do this, I really need input from the members - ideas, offers of support, offers of organisation.

A number of activities have been offered this year - some more successful
than others. Variety is essential in appealing to the most members - not everyone wants to do the same type of thing. Give me your ideas - either on this forum or by e.mail/telephone.

I will post the skeleton of key events shortly.

I read in PP that Chips Away did a Region demo of their techniques for repairing scratches, alloy wheels etc. As Christine lives near Stoke Bruerne (local Chips Away franchisee) I am sure she would come along to a meeting in the summer.

She reapired an alloy on my wifes 2 day old Audi after the delivery driver badly kerbed it and it came up like new. WDYT?

Emberton Park picnic and BBQ? That was a VERY pleasant day out.

Santa Pod? RWYB?

De Havilland Aircraft museum at London Colney?

Sportwagen at Southend? (Porsche bodywork specialists -they have Jo and Robin Walker's 356 for a roof down restoration at the mo....)

Aston Martin at Newport Pagnell?

And Maurice -behave!! [;)]

I think I am still a member of the Aston Martin Works Car Club. I'll contact them to see if we can join in one of their fun days. Last time we had a tour of the resto shop and customer repair/service facility. The 007 Vanquish was there along with Paul McCartney's DB6 after a full resto.

edited:- Mr Mackie [sorry dont know your christian name] is the 996 Cab with the engine cover spoiler and 6 digit private plate yours ? If so we must live close ?

Allan,

Sorry don't have an engine cover spoiler and my PP has only 5 digits too it. The cab is currently tucked up in the garage under its winter cover with a battery conditioner trickling away.

It did come out on Sunday for a few hours but hasn't been in regular service for a while so it must be someone else you have seen. I live in Central MK and work out towards Buckingham.

regards

Graham

Hi Graham
That means theres another C2 cab in arctic around here then. I am in Central MK too, our apartments have quite an enclave for Porsche with:-
1 x GT3
1 x C4 cab
1 x Box S
2 x Box 2.5
1 x 968
and soon to be another GT3

I am planning to hold another Emberton Park picnic - probably on 4th July - USA Independence Day - as our usual monthly club date is 11th, which clashes with British F1 GP (though I am not convinced that many members would be too fussed by that!). Before the date becomes firm, I need to speak to the Park officers.

The Santa Pod idea is also on the stocks, but I was thinking of attending one of the International events with the Top Fuel cars - 3000-4000 hp is amazing to hear close up! Their Firework spectacular in Oct/Nov is a "sight and sound" feast too!

I am trying to contact Allan about the Aston visit.

Anyone up for organising one of the other outings here?

I live close to Santa P, and have been a drag racing fan since about 1973 - I would happily organise to have my gaff as focal point for drive (walk ?) out.

Also, if you have an MTB, you can get on the site for free as the Pod is officially on the 3 Shires Way....so a public right of access 365 days per yr...but a little muddy.

Several of the local contacts own Top Fuel cars. I could (perhaps) get us a tour round one if there was interest.

FYI - Top fuel is now making 5500 - 6000hp with times of 4.7second quite the order of the day.
Alcohol cars make "only" 3000 cars with 6 second runs often achieved. Just think of that...+2000hp improves your quarter mile time by about a second. Makes the upgrade to a K&N filter seem a little bit pointless from a power perspective.

Trust Edward to drag it down.
I think our challenge for 2004, especially during the Summer, is to get something organised for at least every other weekend.

I think our challenge for 2004, especially during the Summer, is to get something organised for at least every other weekend.

2 events a month? Am I missing something? How about the existing draft programme discussed at the last meeting?

April - Easter Sunday drive out/Club Night (someone please volunteer!)
- OPC Car Clinic

May - Regional Meeting (I'm trying to organise this - more news shortly)
- Classic Monaco

June - Le Mans (anyone going?)
- Regional Meeting - Possible Car Club gathering in Pulloxhill
- NEC trip to Garden Show

July - Regional Meeting - BBQ - Emberton or Shuttlewoth
- Kimbolton Car Show
- Classic Le Mans

August - Regional meeting - Concours
- Porsche Festival @ Brands Hatch

Plus Track Days; Body shop visit (possibly, if someone can organise); trips to other Regions; Marc trying to organise a France trip....etc

No doubt, if you look in Porsche Post over then next few months, there will be events happening across the Country every other weekend.

Anyone volunteering to organise the September Club Night/Day?

The challenge is finding organisers/support.

How about a meet up at a trackday? I suggest Bedford Autodrome on Sat 24th April with RMA or one of the closer PCGB ones on an alternative date (eg Silverstone July 28th or Bedford August 14th).

That way we get to see some real action and get a good quality social at the same time. The format also allows us to attend when we want during the day, so can fit it around other things that we are doing.

Also if you bring a helmet and pay the passenger fee, most drivers are happy to take a passenger for a few flying laps -- in my experience that is the easiest way to sample a bit of exotic machinery without damaging your wallet? Really shakes the winter cobwebs off!!

I know - now - have spoken to the Shuttleworth management since I wrote the above.

The July meeting (4th) is at Shuttleworth, the June meeting is now a BBQ at Emberton.

On 29th May I am arranging an inter-marque gathering at Pulloxhill in Bedfordshire. More details later.

I've heard rumblings that the March 14th Club night at Stoke Bruerne will be a talk from Porsche Open 944 racer Andrew Sweetenham? Is this confirmed (I may have to book the nightshift off work [:D] )

Anyone fancy joining the Continental Car Tours "Historique Circuite de Laon" over the Whitsun Bank holiday weekend?
I will be running my Carrera 3.2 and a pal from Gloucester is coming in a '73 RS Replica. Been a number of times before - great turn out from UK (circa 150 cars) plus 200 or so from France. Friendly atmosphere, plenty of Champers and good food.

Brian/Mike,

When is the Silverstone OPC clinic scheduled please?

Dave

Saturday 17th - 9.30 am. Details are in the monthly write-up in Porsche Post.
Have you put your name down on the list handed round at previous Club Nights? If not, let me know as most slots have now gone.
