Hi The Region 5 organising Committee together with the 991 & 992 Registers are excited to announce that we have made arrangements via PCGB suppliers, Lycian Events for a group trip to the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour Classic event which is taking place on the 4th and 5th July 2020.

The Classic at Le Mans is held every two years and 2020 will be the 10th Le Mans Classic to date. It is one of the greatest historic motor racing events where you will see cars that took part in the race between 1923 and 1979. In total, it is expected there will be more than 350 participants taking part. The cars will be divided into six grids, each representing a different era. They will follow each other on the track, hour after hour, for 24 hours. The start of the race will take the form of a traditional Le Mans start. In keeping with tradition, the start will be on Saturday at 16:00 with the finish 24 hours later. In addition to an exhibition of an array of wonderful cars, this international historic car meeting will also feature a parade of European Clubs on the long circuit and an auction of collectors' cars and automobilia.

We will be staying at Lycian Events secure camp site which is known as the Village on the Curves. The site includes excellent security together with a regular shuttle bus service to the paddock entrance of the circuit and to the tram stop, which provides regular services to Le Mans City centre. The Village is located on the inside of the iconic Porsche Curves and opens on the Wednesday before the event with the restaurant and bar available. There are designated 35 square metre pitches for single vehicles with up to 4 guests ensuring that you have your own, albeit small private space. The site also includes toilets, showers and for those of you that require it, there is even a pamper tent complete with hair dryers and mirrors! The reception marquee boasts three 50" HD TVs and bar area with bistro-catering providing meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner if required. Lycian Events can provide the following:

• Return ferry crossings
• General Admission tickets
• Superb trackside viewing on the iconic Porsche Curves
• Secure fenced site with 24hr English speaking security
• Lycian representatives available throughout the weekend
• Large pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans
• Marquee with wide screen televisions to cover 24hr race
• Dining at Café Virage
• Exclusive use of Village by participants and guests
• Cash bar with draught beers
• Private serviced toilets and hot shower facilities
• Free shuttle bus operating to different parts of the circuit

The Confirmed 2020 Classic prices which follow include a PCGB discount of £25 per pitch – the price is based on two people per pitch with a standard car.

Race Tickets & Camping:
£355 per person (includes General Entrance & Paddock Tickets)

Itinerary/ Crossings:
There will be no formal itinerary given the nature of this event, you are free to make your own plans for the weekend. Crossings can be arranged to suit your personal requirements however, by way of an example, a number of us are planning to travel via the Portsmouth/Cherbourg fast ferry route outbound on Thursday 2nd July @ 09:00 returning Monday the 6th July @ 17:00 the additional cost for this will be £350 per car.

There are however many other travel options including the overnight ferry to Caen, as well as Dover to Calais or Folkestone to Calais. Lycian Evens will be pleased to provide you with a quote for the crossing of your choice.

Accommodation Supplement Options:
There are a number of different camping options as well as the opportunity to take or hire a Motor Home / Caravan on site from Lycian. The camping options are:

Two Person pre-erected tent £165
Four Person pre-erected tent £225
Village Belle Glamping option £550

You can of course take your own tent for no extra cost, however, please check with Lycian that your tent will fit on the pitch.

Grandstands Supplements:
Sommer £59
Lagache £59
Leonard £59
Tavano £59
ACO £39

If you would like to join us for this fabulous informal weekend, we would recommend that you book your crossings with Joy or Saskia at Lycian Events as soon as possible, given that the availability is limited and although Brittany Ferries have only just released the prices we understand that they are selling out fast. All Lycian Events need at this stage is a £100 per person deposit. You need to tell Joy or Saskia that you are part of Martin Davis’s Region 5 / 991 - 992 register group and you will benefit from the small Porsche Club discount and we will all be grouped together on site.

Thanks Martin , tried ringing but no answer , left a message and sent an email. Hopefully I can arrange something when I get in touch.

All sorted Martin , booked in . I will have to meet you there thought, I am taking the le shuttle on Thursday morning, I fancy the drive. Looking forward to a great event , hopefully I can catch up with you all before we leave, many thanks.

Hi Stephen,

I have also replied to your other post, we are delighted that you can join us, we have also booked the ACO stand at E39, which should be fine, I’m sure that you will have a fabulous weekend.

Yours,

Martin

Have there been any updates regarding this event ? I cannot see this happening now that the Olympics and Wimbledon have been cancelled. Personally I am reviewing my summer holidays in August, I don't think it would be respectful following what's occurred in that country. I have been there before following the tsunami in Phuket , very grim and hostile atmosphere with no way of leaving the situation. Hope everyone is surviving the lock down, take care and stay safe.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your message, I would agree that it is looking unlikely that the Classic event will be going ahead, although this has not yet been confirmed.

I have been keeping in touch with Joy and Stephen at Lycian Events and that is why they have not chased us for final payment. When I last spoke to them, they told me that they were expecting a decision around Easter time.

I will put up another post as soon as there is any further news.

in the meantime, I hope that you and your family stay well and safe.

Kind regards,

Martin

Good morning all,
I hope that you are all managing to keep safe and well during these difficult times.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have just received the following announcement from Stephen Fowell of Lycian Events. This decision probably won’t come as a shock to any of you and I shall of course let you have more news as soon as I have it.
In the meantime, please put the 1st to the 5th July 2021 in your diary if you would still like to join me and the R5 / 991 & 992 Register contingent.
Yours,
Martin

Further to my previous post about the postponed Classic Le Mans event I have now heard from Stephen and Joy at Lycian Events as per the attached.
If you weren’t previously able to join us why not get the date in your diary now, you won’t be disappointed, it’s a fabulous weekend! Once again we will be setting off from the North West after work on Wednesday the 30th June 2021 for an overnight stay at the Travelodge in Portsmouth before catching the fast ferry to Cherbourg on the Thursday morning and returning on Monday the 5th July.
