Reliability

Hmmm

Its based upon ONE response from A WHISTON - 01/12/2004 .... so if I was to add in the "never had a problem" with my last 4 Boxsters I wonder what would happen

This should change any minute now; I have now responded with my views on the Boxster which I own and drive - I have no complaints.

Think the results would be the same. It appears to be a record of warranty work carried out on car's covered by Extended Warranty lot's of them not just one.

We are on Boxster No.4 (987S), since 1997 - all performed faultlessly (as have my 996s).

In fact, I used Warranty Direct for an extended warranty on our 986S (it was half the price of Porsche's and covered RMS when Porsche didn't) - no claims.

I am on Boxster number two the first was a 2.5 and the present one is an 03 facelift. No problems with either of them that's why I have a new 987 ordered for March 06.

I have just had a trawl through the web site. It is really odd; very few reports and any results are statistically insignificant. Also my post has not been entered after over 30 minutes.

I cannot fathom out what it hopes to show or prove without a much wider base for analysis.

Their danger will be that anyone can log on and enter whatever data they wish.

Just thought that I would let you know.

Incidentally, I am on my first Boxster wth no problems. If all goes well, I will have a long and hard look at a 3.2 S next year.

Guess whats bottom of the class for reliability

March 05 AutoExpress published an in depth survey titled Driver Power 2005 Top 100 Cars. The catergories covered were
Performance: Ride Quality: Handling: Braking: Practicality: Comfort: Ease of Driving: Build Quality: Relability: Running Costs:

The Boxster (986) came in at place 18 with Overall Rating of 84.91% In first place was the Honda S2000 with O/R 89.90%

Main points lost from Boxsters score were mainly issues that have now been resolved in the 987 ie Lack of practicality, high running costs, uncomfortable cabin. Summary said "Time might have caught up with the Boxster but the replacement 987 could see Porsche's entry level model challenging for honours once again."

On Boxster number five now and as with previous 4 no issues to report [;)] the cars have all been "brilliant"

How can a Boxster be deemed to have a lack of practicality?

What other roadster comes anywhere near the luggage space? It's the only roadster that can carry a dialysis machine and a weekends worth of fluid.

I hadn't realised that I was sat in an uncomfortable cabin for the last 83000 miles!

The 986 and 987 are virtually identical in terms of "practicality", "cabin comfort" and "running costs" - exceptional for their class in all these areas.

I totally agree with you and it just goes to prove you can't please some folk who obviously want hatchback practicality in a 2 seater [&o] ... Personally I think for a sports car it is as good as it gets on the practicality front [:-] Taller drivers could do with some extra inches but for me at 5'8" the seats are very comfy [;)] and the interior space and practicality leaves a friends Ferrari 360 standing even with all its extra length and width :ROFLMAO:

I'm not comfortable in the 987 - the pedals are further away, which totallly messes me up with the steering wheel/gear lever positioning.
986 is perfect though...
Yes I'm short[&o]

Hang on, I see a survey looming here!

I'm 5' 8" aswell. Is there something about being compact[;)] that gives rise to Boxster purchase?

You can't trust the stats on a survey with a sample size of 1. I can't understand the maths anyway - 1 respondant who's mileage is recorded to 4 decimal places, and age to 9 decimal places???? Also, there is a cost of repair componant, implying that you annual singe service bill for £400 scores the same as your dodgy Land Rover going in 5 times for repairs at £80 a go!

For the record, I had 50k trouble free miles in my 986 (well, the CD went on the blink and was replaced under warranty) and so far, 3k miles of bliss in the 987.

Oh, and I'm 5'9" and find the driving position of the 987/6 extremely comfortable - especially so in the 987 now I have sports seats (plus the vertical adjustment on the wheel).

I'm 6'1" and find If I sit fully upright (in my not very reclined driving position) 25% of my forward vision disappears, so I generally drive stooping forward a little. [:(]

I see 5' 8" as the norm and the Boxster Register bears this out Nic being the lofty one, Mark the self confessed shorty and me in the middle. [8D]
