Reliable as ever!

There I was last Saturday just about to leave for work...an 85 mile drive into London, I usually take train, but had to drive as I was finishing at 3am. Went to take my wifes 2 year old Espace with 20k on the clock, only to find it would not start!! My usual mode of transport was being used by the wife, so I resorted to the garaged cars. Could not take my 911 SC as that was off the road with an electrical problem!! So it was down to my nearly 27 years old 924 to get me to work! and that it did. Started first time as usual, and cruised effortlessly down the M11. Got loads of admiring looks (the car not me!) people like to see these cars on the road. The return journey was something else, 3am on the M11 and the roads across the Fens gave me a chance to throw her about....boy can these things go round corners!!
Another lovely drive, and yet another 'smile' to the face experience from my 924.

Had a great time myself a few weeks ago with a 2,000 mile trip around France in my 1983 2.0. It was mostly on the great motorways over there but it was the first time I've done 90mph legally over long distances and it was brilliant. (my car has 191,000 miles on the odometre and (touch wood) keeps on running well.)
In the North of France my girlfriend Marie pointed out how many people were looking at my car [:)]
 
Watch the M11 up near, but before, Duxford going north. There is a series of bends about four or five miles out, and there is a vicious bump in the outside lane. It nearly pitched me and the 24T into the central armco.

Just in case anyone else reads this and is caught out, the speed limit in France is 130kmh (80mph), and 110kmh (68mph) in the rain?

Be careful with speeding over there - being pulled by the gendarmes can be expensive.
Don't ask me how I know. [:mad:]

I converted the speed reading on my Tom Tom to read kmh to make sure I stayed legal.
 
Our 924S needed it's MOT this Monday,which it duly passed as always;by the time I got it back,it was too late to go back home and swap back to the BMW as I had to be in Ludlow by 5.30pm so I had a fast drive down the M6 to J15 followed by 1.5hrs of driving on roads ideally suited to the 924S-1st the A53 to north of Shrewsbury,then a bit of the A49 down to the A5-a blast along the A5 west to pick up the A49 southwards again and so to Ludlow.The car handled superbly and it is encouraging to notice how "ordinary " cars are either caught up with on reaching bends or left behind on reaching and leaving bends-all this at 60mph speeds (loads of radar cameras abound).
The car hummed along as if new(only 81500 miles so far).Later in the afternoon,traffic increased somewhat with lots of slower trucks.
Returned same night, leaving Ludlow around 9.40pm ,getting home at 12.05am in Formby.I think I mighr get some higher wattage bulbs-on those roads the standard ones are poor to say the least.

You need higher output bulbs rather than higher wattage ones.

AutoExpress ran a test and these two came out top,
1. Osram Cool Blue
2. Philips BlueVision

What is the state of the reflectors?

I've always found the headlights on the 944 and 924S to be fine, now if you really want poor lighting take the 964 out in the dark - dim as a NAAFI candle!!

on my day to day car,have always run 80/100 watt rally bulbs,but never bothered with the Porkers.Higher output is better but a lot more expensive.I haven't thought that the 964 was bad(despite commentson the forum) the BMW is atrocious on dip despite higher output bulbs and adjustment to the limit-xenons are probably worth it but still dear.
