Reluctant sale of 944S2

Mmm, familiar story. I sold my S2 for a Boxster, then sold the Boxster for a turbo. You'll be back......... ;)

Looks like a cracking S2 (don't sell it..)

Fine advice, but I suspect you will need to free up the cash from the S2 having coughed up for a Boxster.

Hope you enjoy the switch. FWIW, I had an '07 Boxster has a hire car while my S2 was off the road after a small prang, and really didn't get on with it. It was great for the first 20 minutes, but after that I really wanted my waggon back. It just felt far too plastic, characterless and artificial. The sort of thing that took very little skill to drive fairly fast, but when you really took it by the scruff of the neck and hustled hard, it would say "Oh no, I don't want to play this game", and the various computers put various limits in place and flashed lights at you to tell you off.

Oli.

Yes, some 'cashback' would be nice! Besides, much as I like cars, I don't want too many at once; we have a 7-year old Focus for when we need four seats (and it's caused no trouble throughout its life - so far!).

I am enjoying driving the Boxster on a daily basis; it's the nicest vehicle in the school car park - but then I thought the S2 was, as well. Can't say I've explored its limits yet and I'm not likely to on the Guildford-Dorking run either, but I love the smoothness of it, both the ride and the power delivery, and am looking forward to some longer runs before long. My wife, who is hardly a car nut and was sceptical about the need to spend so much on one car, now seems to really like the Boxster and enjoys riding in it - to be honest, that means more to me than how it might perform on a theoretical 'track day' or whatever. Of course, I would love to gradually wind it up (or any car for that matter) but, ultimately for me, its mostly about being able to use a very capable vehicle whenever and wherever I want. Oh, and another thing; when I came home from Sainsbury's tonight, the carrier bags stayed upright in the deep front boot - I usually have to scrape the contents up from all over the rear of the S2! One big minus though; I could easily get my bike in the back but that's not going to be so easy now!

All in all, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the 944S2 but, realistically, I have to let her go.

Just think, I was originally going to join the ranks of Porsche ownership by taking on the '79 928 my little brother, Keith, acquired to write about in 911 & Porsche World. Now that would have drained the purse!

David, you can actually get a roof rack for the Boxster and add a cycle rack that way. I actually looked into it. They crop up on eBay from time to time, it has a fancy name I think. You need to ensure it comes with the the bits though.

Agree with everything you say about the Boxster, they are great cars in their own right. Such a shame you have to part with the 944. Can you not just delay a little longer to ensure you're totally 100% on the Boxster! [;)]

Black_JPN: thanks for the note about the cycle rack, do you have any more information or know where I might get it?

BTW; gave the S2 a run a couple of days ago - still feels very nice! Also, looked especially mean and moody when I came back to it in a deserted multi-storey car park (didn't realise Woking could look so edgy!).

Still love the Boxster though, so it has to go.
