Reluctant to start then white smoke

All,

When I tried to start my Boxster this afternoon the engine died almost immediately after starting. Its the first time this has ever happened. I then tried to start the car again but despite the starter motor turning the engine didn't start. After a couple of more attempts it still didn't start. In frustration I tried starting the engine continously, after about 5 seconds the engine started to sound as if it was going to start, I continued and the engine started to stutter and finally sprang into life and a huge cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust. The car was then fine for the rest of the day. Does this sound like the engine may have flooded and all is now well or could this bode something more serious? There are no warning lights or messages on the trip computer to get anything check.

Yours concerned

Mine did that once but I can't remember if it smoked or not when I let go of the key too soon. It took quite a few seconds before it caught and fired up.

A white/blue cloud is not uncommon particularly when a neigbour is watching!

Our 987 did that the other day .. Started very rough, big smoke (in the garage .. cough cough) .. once it was running, sounded like it was misfiring and I could hear a mechanical ticking from the engine bay .. very valve like. . after idling for a few mins it all settled down and was fine ... It really was one of those OMG do I turn it off and ring Porsche Roadside and get it trailered to the OPC .. but by the time I was making the decision it was ok .. Ran fine since .. Have NO clue why it did it
