911 turbo newbie

New member
can anybody give advice on this subject please,
i have a 04 996 turbo with x-50 pack, so should have 450ishbhp! i have seen a place that are doing remaps that say i will get between 520-530bhp and an extra 90nm, is this possible?
and could someone tell me what parts are changed when the x-50 pack is put on at the factory,
this is our first porsche so am a bit of a novice in what these cars can have done to them safetly.

The main difference between standard and X50 Turbo engines is that the X50 has larger (K24) turbos, uprated intercoolers, and a different fuel map.

There is lots of scope for remapping the X50, and 520-530bhp is certainly achieveable with a few other tweaks. Be careful where you choose to go for the remap though - there are some cowboys out there. Generally speaking, cheap isn't good. I believe there is a 'Group Buy' going on in the 911 Turbo forum at the moment at Fearnsport which might be worth checking out.

thats the place i have found, have you heard good things about them?
i am just worried about possible problems if we decided to go ahead with this, we dont want to start rebuilding blown up engines, its our first porsche, and we are having to learn what these cars can actually take and do.

In which case, I would say use it for a while and get used to it first. When you have a few miles under your belt and feel more comfortable, then consider remapping. Isn't 450bhp enough for the time being? 420bhp can frighten me sometimes on the road!

Fearnsport are a reputable outfit, and I have heard good things about them, btw. Also, the engine will stand the increase with ease.

thanks richard,
its nice to hear that the engine is well protected if we get this remap[:D] we are having fun learning the car, and like you say 450bhp is pretty awesome[8D]
was just considering seeing that it was such a good price, but maybe take your advice and learn a bit more over the next 6 months and get it done when the weather gets better next year[:D]
