Remapping a 996 C2 3.4

Hi,

Can anyone give me some feedback on their views on remapping a 996? Are there any remapped 996's out there?

I have seen Superchips offering a remap that will give an extra 16 bhp for £390 - is it worth it and are there any other sub £1,000 mods that anyone would recommend?

Once I read the Hartech guide to blown engines I completely dismissed the idea of more power. The liners on the 3.4 are much thinner than the 3.2 and i can only imagine that more power would make this problem more likely to occur - ie. cracks in Lokasil liners...

And do you really need 20bhp for the risk of a £5000 bill?

Hmmm, good point. Would you do anything else instead?
 
Surely you'd get a similar power-to-weight benefit of only 16bhp by making sure you're not carrying around a load of junk in the boot, only filling the tank half full and going on a diet?

Revo - do a remap, I have it on mine (albeit a 997). Power gains for yours should be approx 12 -15bhp but they will advance the throttle mapping so the engine is much more responsive so feels quicker as well. Advantage here is that it keeps within Porsche parameters and limits so should, in theory, add marginal additional strain on the engine. As was said to me, if it goes wrong it was going to go wrong any way.
