Remapping advice

You'll struggle.

Many moons ago (must be 2004ish) we had a rolling road day organised by the club and brought up some expert tuner (Wayne someone? - mike B got his old 3.2 done if I remember correctly so may be able to advise) and I spoke to him at length about remapping non-turbo M96 engines (and the same applies to the M97 in your C4S and its fundamentally the same).

His opinion was that its a waste of time without changing the breathing of the engine (i.e. new intakes if you can fit them in, and in particular new headers) as very little can be gained for the time/effort involved (a couple of bhp at most). He attributed this to the ECU software being pretty good at detecting the conditions and remapping somewhat "on the fly". This was different to prior ECUs which pretty much had a hardcoded map which suited all countries/conditions.

Others may have a different opinion, but I was standing there willing to pay him cash and he was turning it down, so I valued what he said.
 
I have used DMS for my Cayenne Turbo and my wife's Mercedes turbo diesel. Obviously much more flexibility with turbo cars. If you are looking for an honest opinion on the pros and cons of remapping a naturally aspirated car Rob at DMS is a top guy. He won't try and sell you the remap for the sake of it. DMS will travel to Glasgow no problem.

Wayne Schofield was the guy, the event was at Star Performance in Glenrothes, and I recall it well, and endorse everything Greig has just said. Mr Schofield is (or at least was at the time) pretty much the leading UK expert on remapping, so what he said that day stuck with me too. It was a very instructive day.

His view was that any decent manufacturer (Porsche in particular) had done everything possible in the mapping to get the best out of the engine, leaving precious little room for even someone with his talents to get more. At best he could up the fueling and hope to get a bit more power, but there was always the chance that all this would do would be waste fuel. Totally different with turbo engines where you can up the boost pressure and map accordingly.

Wayne is the man behind Chip Wizards. That would have been a good event at Glenrothes. I have a 993, which probably has more scope for optimising. If you search on the 993 forum on 911UK you will see a lot of recommendations regarding a live remap, good improvements where you would expect. In terms of fuel economy, don't expect any noticeable difference. Yes with a turbo diesel and heavy miles. No chance with a petrol car with stop start driving. My Cayenne averages 15 to 16 on short city driving ( no difference to pre map)

 
Wayne Schofield is the man in question, he runs or ran a company in Bolton called Chipwizards, he has full rolling road there. He is super experienced , did my old 3.2 which put out a healthy 252 BHP ( albeit with a bit more than a remap )
He also spent a lot of time on my Mk1 GT3 and on a remap alone went from 360 to 384 BHP.
Might be an idea to call him and discuss what is possible on your car as he knows his stuff and doesn't give any BS.

Maybe a bit late in the day for this one but for re mapping I can throughly recommend Grant at Ves-Sport, based at Midlane garage in Braco, tel 01786 880941, not where you would expect to find this kind of service. Looks nothing from the outside in fact I thought I was at the wrong garage but round the back he has all the high tech gear, rolling road etc. I had my range Rover Sport up there yesterday and difference is much better than expected, also reasonably priced. Grant has done a lot of high end cars, Audi RS 6's, BMW's, Porsche and Lambo etc, really knows what he is talking about so well worth a visit or phone call.
 
Also a bit late on this, but my local Porsche indy in Stirling, SP Autobahn does Revo Technik remaps. Something I've been considering doing in the new year. Might be worth a look.
