remapping

Hi all I have a 2006 Cayman S its done 84000 two weeks ago I had it Terra cleaned the only mod ive done is had a hand built exhaust put on I have seen a increase in fuel consumption im now thinking of having a remap does any one know the benefit of this Mark

none ,or at best 5bhp.

Engine is a air mover, so you need more air in, and then need to get that extra air out, a remap will fuel it correctly after you have managed the former and latter.

I got 345BHp from my 987.1 btw ;-) but that was with 996 GT3 Throttle intakes and new exhaust systems with less cats.

the gen 1 Cats are split 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. one needs to have the 2 rear ones removed all together.

Mark,

As D says, a DME remap may only give you 15 - 20 bhp ( http://www.softronicsoftware.com/porsche-987-cayman-performance-software/ )....if you're lucky.

You mentioned that you've sourced a modified exhaust but you'd need to upgrade the exhaust manifold and intake filter, throttle body and plenum to get any real benefit from the remap.

Whatever route will be costly. Maybe you'd be better off saving up for a turbo'd 718 which will be much more amenable to relatively cheap tuning.

n/a engines are harder to tune, you might get 10-20 bhp extra,if you chip it,you could also change throttle butterfly motor unit to a bigger unit ,to much cost I think for the power gains you get(I work on engine dyno test beds,so i see how much power you can get out of a n/a engine ie our 1.6 vct can put out 115ps ,125ps or 137ps ,this was done by just a remap of fuel, vct timeing, and spark, turbo and supercharge engines are much easier to tune as you just increase boost and add more fuel ie our 1.6 turbo engine puts out 150 ps 182ps or 215ps,our 5.0l supercharge engines put out 500 ,550 or 575 ps, base engines are all the same all this is done by recalibration of the ecu)

Hi all thanks for advice I was talking to a member at our Christmas dinner he has same car as me but fitted a Sprint Booster £186 it has taken all the lag out and transformed the car plus you can fit yourself in 10mins

I just press the accelerator harder [:D]

yep not a fan of the sprint booster. as above press the throttle faster lol

here is my 987.1 dyno, the flat dead spot is an issue as it is in most new cars now for cheating co2 figures.

but my tuned figure is great and is tried and tested 1000's of time on the 987. 1 platform.

my dyno is from a indy who did not know I changed anything on the car, so not a fix.

great gain on the 295 BHP gen 1 cars.

About £4.5k to do, and not worth doing any one mod, as we have said it's about moving air so every thing is needed to get the BHP/

each mod on it's own nets you 5bhp lol

although the easy mod is to remove the 2 rear cats, as that give you 10bhp and removes a bit of the dead spot.

just looked at the sprint booster web site I think this is a waste of money, all its does is alter the resistance of the pots in the throttle pedal,(there are 2 variable resistors in the throttle pedal ,when you press the pedal one rises and one falls the ecu then uses this info to drive the throttle butterfly valve, hence the name drive by wire all it appears to be doing is altering the pedal response),reminds me of a guy selling cheap tuning aids on e bay a few years ago a resistor to put inline on engine temp sensor to trick ecu that engine was cold so it would put more fuel into engine.(these days with direct injection turbo diesel engines you can get more power out of them by plugging a module into the fuel rail, which increases the rail pressure these do work as we have tried them on our tdci engines the only down side is the fuel pump will not last as long ) just looked at powercurve on graph the power curve is quite linear and the torque curve follows the standard curve but with a higher output, which is good, I think it is still quite expensive 4.5k, roughly 1 bhp for £100

transformed a 987.1 car though as the dead sports are notable , a modded car is very smooth.
