Perhaps a fleeting thought but does anyone have any positive or negative experiences regarding remapping a 997 Gen 1 turbo? I'm currently on a standard (car is completely standard) 480 BHP. It is suggested to me that a 1st stage remap to 560 BHP is a safe and reliable remap and the best money one can spend on the car. Any experiences please?

Unless you're running the car ragged and looking for more grunt everywhere, why would you want a remap for more power? [8|]
In the real world, there is very little than can stay with a well driven 997 Turbo. IMO better to spend the money on a proper geo set-up and some decent rubber. []

Clive
I Believe the best money any one can spend on a Gen 1 Turbo is a high quality stainless steel exhaust and catalytic converter upgrade ,I recently changed the exhaust for sound and acoustics on my Manual 997 Turbo Gen 1 ,I did not want too, was a hard decision for me but she really deserves it. Apart from the exhaust conversion she is standard.
After hearing many exhaust systems at my specialists work shop from Tubi to agency power ,H&S and having installed previously a Miltek on my Cayman S and a Map as-well as my uncle having the Milltek and Map installed on his 996 Turbo ,i was not happy with the sound .I Spoke to Michael Mergenthaler of Cargraphic Thomas Schnarr GmbH, I ordered the super sound version with 200 cell cat matrix made high quality and durability made of tri metal and precious metals .
I had previously ordered all of my parts from years before from Cargraphic many years ago via Mark of Stuttgart connection before all of the specialist parts dealers were about ,they were than and are as good as main dealer parts and prices.
On cold start the exhaust pops ,bangs and crackles and with a bit of throttle spits the odd flames ,Although its super sound its not super loud dose not drone on idle is aggressive when you blip the throttle and settles down above 4000 RPM.
I have noticed with this exhaust the Turbo's spool up quicker especially in sportsplus mode. I use Shell V-Power Nitro Fuel she lights up the rear 305 sections in First ,Second ,Third and Fourth the revs climb faster "Thankyou Porsche for PSM"
I have to agree with Clive above Set-up and rubber and IMHO a well deserved decent exhaust.

I've already done that, new tyres all round this month and an excellent set up from Centre Of Gravity. Onto remaps.....
No I haven't as yet, I'll check it out, thanks.
Ralphmusic - I had a read and its not a route I want to go down - there is nothing wrong with the standard exhaust system, the stage 1 remap is a first stage uplift through the ecu that can be done without upsetting the rest of the car - as an example of gains that can be made I had my two ZX10R bikes remapped and the technician told me that there were 24 restrictions removed that were EU led for noise and emissions that have increased power and rev range most notably in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear that have resulted in more torque and power and no noticeable dip in consumption. It was how Kawasaki intended the bike to be before unwelcome EU interference.......The 23rd June is coming..........So rather than funding a space ship to Mars with new intercoolers and exhaust systems the stock kit can be allowed to work to above its current setting like the Turbo S and X50 pack I'd suggest?
Robbo,
There are many ways to achieve any given target and looking back over thread contributions the suggestions to talk to 9e and DMS look useful to help calibrate the cost/benefits.
We'll be interested to hear how your choices evolve and are implemented.

Hello All,
I have been considering this for a while on my Gen 1.5 Turbo. I have done a few minor things now but at huge expense and am so happy with the car. The exhaust always felt very restricted and I have replaced the entire system and manifolds with Capristo valve system. It really is the best sounding turbo I have heard now and can be silenced for cruising, far better than the porsche sports system found on the Carreras with huge BHP increases that are around 60hp according to the rolling road figures. The system has a remote control with four settings. 1. allows me to shut the system to closed. 2. Is performance opening the system according to air flow and rev changes maximising performance, keeping the car quiet until it reaches higher rev ranges and then the system fully opens and sounds like thunder! 3. Open and loud for showing off! 4. Race, setup for track usage but I haven't accessed this as its not yet needed. Also, changed the air filter system, all now Carbon with a piper cross panel filter. Brakes have been upgraded to Semi-race Pagid pads with new race car handmade braided hoses all around. The feel through the pedal is amazing and stops perfectly with no fade. Many oil changes to keep things all fresh and a lovely new car cover for storing up then I travel.... This TT is my baby but it may need a little more performance and the ECU remap maybe on the books a bit later. I am always worried about stressing the engine to much with an upgrade of this type and would always recommend new intercoolers to keep things in check and running cooler.
How much does a remap actually cost? It is the next natural progression and reading the report in the Post this month it seems wonders have been achieved very easily.
