Guys I lost my remote fob today only the electric board inside the casing 3 button type. OPC want half an hour labour to reprogramme new fob, is this something I can do? I know on the bmw you can code the remote but not sure on porsche. Any ideas?
Thank you

you cannot reprogramme a new fob yourself no and opc have you over a barrel really as it comes with a barcode which has to be entered into the alarm ecu via opc piwis computer... unless you know of an indy with piwis..

I won't ask how you lost just the circuit board...... Key remotes and immobiliser transponders have to be programmed to the alarm module in the car using a Porsche Tester. Not only that, but you need the programming codes for the car, which Porsche store on their system. It is possible for indies to get the codes, but it's a lot of faffing around so they don't tend to do it. Edit (after posting at the same time as PE): The 996 can be programmed with the older PST2 tester, which almost all independents have. Again, the vehicle programming codes are needed, not just the bar codes from the new remote.

when you have a new one coded opc can determine which one you currently have and then remove any others from the alarm system so it would not work if someone found it.. then code in your new one..

I was recently quoted "around £250" for a complete new key and programming for my 1999 996. Not amused. [>:]

I got quoted £150ish for a complete key plus £77+vat prog fee. When I showed the parts dept my key they still tried to sell me a complete key but I insisted on just the fob which I then took to the service dept who did'nt look that busy, I said I would pay no more than £50 to programme my new fob or I'll would go elsewhere, they agreed. Moral of the story? We dictate the price now, Barter hard!
