Remote central locking (and alarm failing)

Morning all, i got out of my 944 S2 this morning after a short drive and it decided that it would not remote lock or activate its alarm. Finding this strange, i just locked the doors manually and the central locking still appears to be functioning. I figured it might just be the key fob running out of batteries so tried the spare and still no locking. Im not really sure how to continue diagnosing the problem, is there any advice on where to start? I am firmly pointing the finger at the alarm system as the source of the fault but not sure how to procedd from there.

Any advice most appreciated.

Cheers
Sid

aftermarket central locking /alarm systems are all different. The wiring is non standard and sometimes pretty crude. It might even contain a hidden inline fuse . Its probably a case of tracing the wiring using a multimeter.
Have you removed or replaced the CD player or anything else in the centre console or dash ? that might have disturbed the wiring.

If the alarm is the original Porsche jobbie It will be fused I would start there first.
Also check the voltage of both your keyfobs with a multimeter as the batteries could be too low to operate
Your keyfob might have gone off frequency I suppose ? I wish I knew more about these systems.
I've been meaning to remove or disconnect my immobiliser for yonks. Its a royal pain in the butt when you need a quick gettaway .

it is indeed an aftermarket and its an absolute mess. I have been toying with getting it replaced and all the wiring redone but that is going to be pricey so i might try tracing the wires first.

definitely not the weather to be stripping out your centre console and dash wiring Brrrrrr
I'd hazard a guess and say unless its a fuse its likely to be the keyfob transmitter. Its unlikely the alarm and its assosiated wiring has suddenly developed a fault . I'd eliminate the easiest and more likely culprets first. Best of luck
