Remote Central Locking Problem

Wonder if anyone can help a relatively new 993 owner.

I've started getting problems with my remote central locking (operated by a Laser Line alarm). It had been working fine, but has started failing to open the doors - not all the time, but most.

I've had a health check done on the alarm by the installers, and they've told me that it's probably due to the central locking itself as there's nothing wrong that they can find.

The central locking works fine every time from when using the physical key, whether I open the driver's or the passenger's door, so I guess most things are working as they should. However, the alarm installer did note that the key was stiff to turn in the passenger side, and that this resistance might be what's causing the problem. Having tried it myself, they're right - it is a lot stiffer than the driver's side and seems to be getting worse.

So, the question(s) finally. Could this be what's causing the issue, and how do I go about freeing it up or lubricating the mechanism?

Thanks in advance for any help - it might seem strange but having to use a key to open the car is a massive irritant!

Maurice,

Thanks for the quick response. I took a quick look in th section you mention, but the only thing I spotted was an article about replacing the door motors. Mine seem to work fine when a key is used in either door, it's just that the remote central locking won't always work them. So I really just need to know if whether the stiff passenger door lock could be the cause, and if so how do I go about lubing it up.

Or are you saying that the motor will need replacing anyway?

All,

Just a quick update. On the advice of the alarm fitters I had the central locking checked out by Camtune, who reported no fault found. I took it back to the fitters and they took another look at the installation It turns out there were a couple of wires that had worked loose from a connection to the new alarm system - they remade these and everything now works fine. Just wish they'd found it first time round and I hadn't incurred the unneccessary costs from Camtune.

Cheers/John
