Remote Central locking

Hi,
Can anyone advise how easy it is to change the standard central locking to be remote?

If you get an alarm (that has a remote fob) fitted it's straightforward, you could probably get the remote to trigger the electric boot release or open/close the sunroof too. Toad are good.
 
I tried the remote central locking route - Was a complete nightmare ! Had it taken out again and thrown in the bin !

As this man says.

Only snag with Toad is that their optional outputs go high when they are activated, and you need them to go low to control the boot. Ergo you need to run it through a relay, but that's not difficult.

I'm contemplating a bit of an extension to my alarm at the moment to allow it to close the windows and sunroof as well. But that's a project for a warm summers day ....

I had a laserline alarm fitted and the guy who fitted it for me fitted motors so that the car locks as I start up and this also locks/unlocks on the remote.
 
My system closes the windows and remote locks. No problems here, just a bit battery heavy when left for a few days.
 
I fitted 2 remote control units (2 different cars) to the central locking control unit on the steering column under the dash. Only cost me pennies. Really simple to do, just tapped into 2 wires. You can even wire the hazard lights to flash at the same time too (not done that yet the second time round).
 
Charles I had an alarm put in a few weeks back that came with remote locking. All I can say is don't buy a Honet system as its rubbish and only works 50% of the time.
 
50% you say. I might have to look into that as it's a good 15% better than the (infra red [:'(]) one Jeep fitted to my Cherokee.
 
The standard immobiliser on my S2 finally gave up the ghost last summer so I had a highly recommended local fitter install an Autowatch 172ri immobiliser which links a remote key fob into the central locking. The product itself works perfecty 100% of the time and the guy who installed it has been doing this for nearly 20 years and uses proper soldered connections after completely removing the old system. His cost for three hours work inc vat was £175 which seems very fair. I found places selling just the immobiliser for a self install at around £90
 
Similar to Paul, I had a highly recommended local fitter install a Toad Ai606 Cat 1 alarm that brought with it the benefits of remote central locking and remote boot opening (so the boot majestically opens on its own as you return to the car should you want it to now I have my new boot struts).

No problems so far, although mine was more expensive at £300 because but that includes labour sorting out a few electrical and central locking gremlins my car had had previously.
 
I fitted a Hornet system and it is ok as I only wanted the remote locking feature anyway, it does the remote boot thing but has broken in that you can no longer program it.
Which is fine but I wish I had switched off the autolock (very annoying) feature before it packed in programming wise..
I wouldn't buy one again.

As people have said, usually the central locking is triggered by a remote control alarm, which then unlocks the car. In fact, I think it is a requirement of a Thatcham Cat1 alarm that it is interfaced to any central locking system there is.

Your S2 will have central locking, and any remote control alarm can be wired like this.

FWIW, I also have a Toad Ai606 installed, which I did myself. Not difficult, and is utterly bulletproof. (Good installation is more important than a good alarm.)
