Remote centrol locking

idontknow

New member
I have encounter another problem in my 1st month of Porsche ownership. The remote central locking has stopped working (occasional works).
I have changed the battery, but still no joy and the spare key is the same.
I have read elsewhere that a new key is the solution, but I don't want to fork out for a new key from Porsche in the hope the key is actually the problem.

Has anybody else experience similar and found a cure?

Many thanks again.

Scott

I'm not sure if you mean it is intermittent or stopped working completely. If intermittent, are the LEDs on the keys always rapid-flashing when you press the button, or are they a bit random? The microswitch buttons often fail, but if you are handy with a soldering iron they can be replaced: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/tec_key_remote_button_repair.pdf

You can try putting the battery in the remote the wrong way up for 2-3 seconds and then refitting the correct way up. This restarts the processor. That's what Porsche suggest, but I'll be honest and say it seldom works.

Other than that, if you have replaced the batteries, the remotes have probably failed. Unfortunately, it is common, and it happens for no apparent reason. I had one fail whilst sitting in the kitchen drawer. It worked when I put it in there, but not when I took it out a couple of months later.

Yes it is an intermittent fault. LED still flashes but more often than not does not unlock the car. I sent one remote off to 'remotekeyrepairs.com' who said they had replaced the microswitch. it worked fine for a couple of days but has now stopped working completely. LED still flashes.
If there is nothing wrong with the key can it be something else, or is a brand new key the only way to go?

Thanks,

Scott
