Remote Controls not working

Yesterday when locking the car the remote did not work. My immediate assumption was dead/weak battery which I replaced. I then checked the new battery powered remote but it failed to operate the locking of the car. I then used the second key and it too failed to operate the locking of the car.

On Saturday in heavy rain the radio decided not to work when getting back into the car after a stop and it had been working minutes before. It is working OK now. No idea if it is connected in any way.

Car is an 03 Boxster S.

Anyone any ideas please before I have to take it to the shop?

you need to check under your passenger seat for water as that is where the alarm ecu is.. if not you may be looking at new fobs..

does the locking work off the switch on the dash?

I had problems with the radio turning off with a beep every now and then. A while after that started, the battery (12V) went. After replacing the battery I've had no problems with the radio.

Thanks very much for the advice.

Latest news from the better half using it as a shopping trolly is it didn't work at first, the red light on the dashboard switch was red. Having asked about the water on the floor she has checked and lo and behold the zapper mechanism works, the red light is not on in the switch, and both zappers work!

Very strange. Clearly a fault that may return.

Anyone know if it is something the OPC can plug into their box of tricks and identify the source of the problem?

all opc will do is check the alarm module on their piwis computer and it will tell of any fault....

so was there no water on the floor under the passenger seat...

No water, all dry thank goodness. It is however a wake up call to check the drain holes again though. Opening and closing the roof does give additional opportunity for odd leaves to get in.

where did the zappers stop working , daft question i know but whilst i worked at opc i was trying to figure out why a cayenne suddenly stopped working , the reason was there was an rac truck unloading a car with his remote taillift blocking the cayenne zapper

Zapper stopped working at home. Unless next door neighbour had some funny electronic gizmo running I cannot think of anything extraneous that would have caused it.

When I bought my Boxster I had 2 keys, one didn't work at all and the other was intermittent. The intermittent key seemed to set the alarm system in all sorts of wacky modes but I fixed it with a cardboard shim in the key as the electronics worked when taken out of the key. Eventually though this died and a new key had to be bought. The good news it the Porsche key was cheaper than a Peugeot 206 key I needed a couple of years ago. Completely separate from this I have found the Porsche radio prone to little fits of sillyness. Things like not selecting sources or sticking at a certain volume. These are few and far between at the moment and can be fixed by turning the car off and on.

Maybe you have 2 faults that have decided to start at the same time, key and radio.
