ORIGINAL: loc944 My Boxster key fob is a bit temperamental, it doesn't lock/unlock car at touch of the button, you have to press several times and put a lot of pressure on it. I have seen places on eBay offering a repair service for between £25 to £50. You post them your key, they repair it and post it back. One issue I have with this is I only have one key. The other is I am posted my key to someone along with my Address. I did chat briefly with the parts guy at my OPC, and he said I would need to book the car in as it would need reprogrammed. This would cost over £200. Does anyone have any experience of having theirs repaired? Thanks, Alan.
Yeah ..I kinda went [:-] at the you post your key ... and give your address ... to a guy on ebay bit  why not get it done at the dealer and see if you can get a second key sorted at same time ?

Before you do anything your issue could be a very simple fix you can do yourself. Take the circuit board out of the fob - easy to do just open up the fob and the board is held in place just by plastic clips. With your fingers holding the battery side of the board to ensure the battery is held in place with a good connection press the microswitch - which is on the opposite side of the board - and see if the lock/unlock becomes reliable with every press. If so, then the fix for you is to simply fold up a small piece of paper into a small square and place it against the battery side of the board - then reassemble the fob - this has the effect of applying pressure against the board and pushing the microswitches towards the key fob operating buttons. It is quite common for the tiny rubber pads on the reverse of the operating buttons to wear and results in having to press multiple times or with greater pressure to activate the microswitches. Alternatively you can just purchase a new fob minus the circuit board (or a much newer fob via ebay) and simply fit your board, key blade - and coded "pill" to the new fob. However, it could also be the fob coming to the end of its life and unreliable locking/unlocking - the distance the fob will work at becomes diminished and eventually they just pack up - only answer then is a new fob.

Update on this. I decided to book the Boxster in to OPC Glasgow to get it fixed. They supplied a new fob and programmed it. Took around an hour and cost £175. They washed and hoovered the car aswell. Happy with the result. Thanks to those who replied to my question. Alan.
