Removal of Boxster 981 roof latch cover..etc

Hi folks- my 2012 981 Boxster S has the 'roof not completely closed' issue. Roof shuts almost all the way but the latch lever does not pull it in the last 2cm. I have tried the microswitch tickle on the lever slot on the windscreen top socket, to no avail, so now I am trying to do the emergency roof close procedure..

However, removing the plastic cover over the roof centre latch housing is not going well; I have disengaged the front tabs and the picture in the owners manual shows that it should then 'pull down' or 'pull forward' to remove......but it does not release if pulled forward or down. Any suggestions?

Update...in fact you have to pull the cover backward then down to release from rear lug.
Then, I used the special latch spindle drive spanner to move the latch lever to its fully open position- then when I tried the electric mechanism all was working again?! Any thoughts- software hangup, reset of lever position needed, etc?
