Removal of Cayman hatch hinge cover?

I had some difficulty editing my posts on an iPad, but now I'm at a Windows machine I've corrected the error in my first post and have included here, for interest only, the PET for the Cayman roof/gutter strips.

If you wanted to remove these strips, or completely remove the rubber seal, you would need to remove the plastic rivet (item 8) and to do that you would need to remove the hatch hinge cover which is the topic of this thread.

Is it possible to remove the Cayman hatch hinge cover without removing the hatch?
You would need to do this to remove the pin securing the roof gutter strip.
The cover is p/n 987 512 111 00 or 987 512 111 01c, shown as item 9 in the PET diagram below.

Can’t really help directly Andrew but if you push the hatch up hard against the strut (or perhaps disconnect the strut) it may well be high enough to remove the hinge cover?

Are you trying to remove the roof edge strip (item 6 in your initial post)? If you just want to replace or reseat the gasket (item 7) I’m not sure that it’s necessary to to remove the strip.

Hi Jeff, thanks for your reply. I've corrected the PET images in my first two posts.

On my car the hatch hinge cover is not sitting snugly against the roof on one side, I suspect a fixing clip (item 10 in the first PET diagram) has broken or become dislodged hence I'd like to know the correct way of removing the cover so to avoid damaging it unnecessarily. It appears that a new cover can be purchased for around £50, but if the whole hatch has to be removed first that would make a much larger job of it and add many more ££££££.

edited to add: that's a good suggestion about removing the struts, but hopefully someone will tell me the cover can be removed more easily.

Removing plastic trim is always a right PITA Andrew! I think the clips are designed with assembly rather than removal in mind, and it always helps if you know where they’re located so that you can use a tool to apply leverage at that point.

Hope you get it sorted. Maybe there’s a an online video?

Jeff
