Removal of centre consol 964

I believe it's possible to get the gear lever gaiter out without removing the console although, I must admit, I did remove my console when I did mine.
The console is fixed by a few screws. Pop out the switch panels at the front of the console (they just pull out) and there are a couple of screws under there, the handbrake tray needs to come out (watch for the single screw right up underneath the handbrake lever), the oddment tray comes out with a couple of screws and then remove the console fixing screws which are then revealed. It's abit tight but you can manouver it OK.
Just a word of warning on the gear lever knob. The standard one is a push fit - if your replacement uses a grub screw to hold it to the gear lever be prepared for it to rattle like mad. I eventually took my nice new one off and put the original back on to get rid of the rattle!!
Hope that helps

I would guess you would have to remove the console but I've never changed the handbrake lever itself. I'm guessing that the handle part of the lever is separate from the part which operates the cable. I've seen plenty of suppliers selling the handbrake levers and I can't recall seeing the bit which attaches to the cabel being shown. I'm sure there are others who have done it before. Hopefully someone might step forward.
Regards
Dave
