Removal of door lock

I'm trying to remove the drivers door locking mechanism on my 924S: removing the handle should be straightforward but I cant get at the linkage inside because there is some kind of steel black guide plate/bracket thing in the way. Its held in by a screw on the bottom inside of the door but it also looks as though there is a small bolt holding it near the lock. Access to this only looks possible by removing the drivers door glass. Is there an easier way or am I missing something. I also need a replacement drivers door handle if anyone's got one they are willing to sell.

Have you peeled back the door rubber and removed the screw from the door frame? Although modifcations, in the interest of security may have been made, on my '83 924 once the handle was loose the connecting link could be sprung out, and then the lock unbolted. It is a bit of a fiddle IIRC, but I dont recall removing the glass. Even so this only entails removing a few bolts and sliding off the runners. Set the window half way. Make up a couple of wedges to hold the glass inplace then wiggle the lift mechanism out. Tilt the glass vertical and remove it from the door if you need to. Of course things may be different if you have central Locking. I am unfamiliar with the general arrangement of that installation.
