Removal of Telephone Handset from 2003

My Tooki is finally working and I am able to make and receive calls from my Iphone. Still not syncing the phone book but I have contact Nav-TV and waiting for their response.

My next project on the car is the removal of the telephone handset from the passenger side of the console.

The car has full leather trim and I want to know how to remove the phone safely.

Are there any problems doing this and how is it done?
I do not know even if the handset has a purpose.

Any help would be appreciated

I also have Tooki and have managed to sync both my iPhone and Porsche Phone with only as I remember the issue that contacts can only have one phone number that Tooki will recognise. So if 'Mark' (One contact) has a Home, Work and Mobile you have to save those as separate contacts ie Mark Home, Mark Work etc.

With regards to the handset, I believe there is a T20 or T30 bolt on the small carpet trim in the foot well forward of the leather trim panel, remove the bolt and carpet trim to reveal two more bolt on the trim you want to remove.

Having remove those grab the trim at the rear and pull towards the rear of the car (not sideways), it should then unhook itself.

btw I think you maybe left with hole in the leather trim if you remove the handset as I think the panel is different to that of the non-phone one.

Edit: I just refreshed my memory with this one (if you look at the Tooki support forum that I was involved with the early Beta testing of this product abeit 2 years ago).

Firstly if you go to Contacts Page is the iphone shown as #iphone or similar ? If so select that contact and select Call open, the phone book may then be transferred.

If not PM me and I help you with another solution.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the advice on the Tooki. At present it comes up with the message 'syncing phone book' but it never does. I will try your method and someone else has told me if I select Tooki on my Iphone and can choose to sync just my favorites. Anyway not a problem.

In terms of the phone holder, my concern is that once I remove the side attachment it does not look the same as the side panel on the drivers side. Where do I get a replacement?

Does the handset work at all?

Thanks

See my edit above.

What car have you installed this in btw?

Handset, no it will no longer work.

Did you bypass the hard wired phone (under seat I think) or replace the Phone unit with the Tooki unit?

Does your car have full leather ie stitching down the side of the PCM trim panel?

Hi Nick,

Tooki unit is behind the PCM.

Full leather trim includes the dash and all side panels.

Ah, yes, this is a problem. The replacement flush leather trim is ÂŁ350. I bought the leatherette version from Design911 for ÂŁ39 instead. It doesn't match the driver's side, but you don't notice too much...

Ok this is what the 987 PCM shows having selected TEL then Phonebook: Currently P'9521 is selected (indicated by the #) and it's contacts list is below):

Press the right knob on the PCM and scroll to the iphone, you may have a # in front of it already.

Now 'call' the iphone:

After a few seconds my PCM reverts back to this page and the # appears next to my iphone contact), the iphone contacts are now synced and below:

Hope that helps you.

Thats better!

I can live with ÂŁ39.

Did you remove the handset as well?

Was it difficult? and how did you disconenct the phone

ts back to this page and the # appears next to my iphone contact), the iphone contacts are now synced and below:

Thanks Nick.

Seems straight forward. My problem was that I was pressing the select option once I had highlight my iphone.

I will now select dial and see what happens.

Thanks for your help and I will let you know how I get on.

The old phone simply unclips like removing a network cable from the back of your laptop - it's an easy job. The new flush side panel then clips in over the top - no screws required.

And the side panel - Just a couple of screws like Nick said.

Great stuff.

I will order my side panel today.

Thank you for all of your help

Hi,

I don't think its supports PCM1 because it uses fibre optical cabling which is on PCM2 & PCM2.1. Could be wrong though

It replaces the Motorola control unit under the driver's seat, and adds Bluetooth functionality. It is a black plastic box, rather than a metal box.
