In case anyone is thinking of removing the telephone handset from their 996, it's very easy and inexpensive to do. It gets rid of the naff 80s handset and allows you to move the passenger seat all the way forwards (fairly essential if you want to fit a baby seat in the rear).
The old extended centre console side panel (996.552.093.03) and handset unscrew quite easily. A new flush fitting side panel (996.552.091.06) in leatherette simply snaps into place. The new part costs £48 inc VAT and delivery from PorschShop and it's very hard to tell the difference between leather or leatherette from either the drivers or passenger side as you can't really see them both together.
