Removal of wing beading

I'm trying to remove the short length of wing beading that sits between the front scuttle and the top of the front wings where they join together by the windscreen.

Does anyone have any experience of the procedure for doing this?

In particular where are all of the fastners located and do I need to undo the bottom of the front wings as well.

You should have asked me when I was over there the other day!! Been there, done that!!

As far as the 964 is concerned the complication is that SOME cars have a spot weld around that place and it makes it difficult to pry the two parts apart. There are a number of bolts alongside the inner edge of the bonnet line and a couple of hex headed bolts inside the door jamb which are really difficult to get at with an allen key. Once I'd loosened all the bolts I managed to pry the two panels apart with a hefty screwdriver wedged along the wing from the door jamb - just enough to slide the old seal out. Getting the new one in is pretty much the same in reverse but with a liberal application of washing up liquid or something equally slippery!!! The new seals invariably have slots cut where the bolts go through although the OEM ones don't. Original seals may have to be ripped out for this very reason.

The other trick is to put the new seals in the freezer for a while as it makes them easier to align properly when semi-rigid....
 
For future reference how far, or how many bolts down the inner wing, away from the beading have to be slackened in order to prise the joint open? As David said, I notice a tack weld securing the wing flange rearward edge on my 993 (the same, as it happens, on my previous 964 - both cabbies - any significance?)

Take the "something equally slippery" option as washing up liquid contains salt (to make your glasses sparkle)
 
Thank you for all the advice, especially on how to get the new seal back in, If only I could get the old one out first!

I've managed to remove the two socket head bolts which are accessed from inside the front door and I've removed the first three from inside the luggage compartment. I suspect to gain any movment it will be necessary to remove most of the bolts, I'm reluctant to try the large screwdeiver technique until I see some signs of movment.

So two questions.

Do I need to remove any other components in the luggage compartment to access hidden bolts? at the moment the first one I can identify nearest to the front windscreen, is by the bonnet/boot hinge.

Secondly where do I look for the spot weld?

 
John, if you do eventually manage to seperate the inner/outer wing make sure that the underseal is properly patched when you put everything back together [8D][8D][8D]

 
Finally managed to remove the wing beading using the following techniqe

Remove the first three bolts inside the boot at the windscreen end, (10mm)
Remove the two socket head (5mm Allen key) bolts inside the door jamb.
Grind the spot weld located just before the first bolt in the door jamb. I finally found a use for the Dremmel as it was small enough to get into the confined space.
After the above I had enough movement to ease the beading out, although I did reluctantly have to use Davie's technique of a 'hefty screwdriver' (quite worrying the tools a precision computer technician have at their disposal).
I used the taper end of some wooden clothes pegs to keep the gap open.

Thank you for your assistance and tips, It would have taken me ages to find the weld without your assistance, and I will adopt the frozen and slippery (Waxoyl) technique for refitting.
