Hi,

I have bought a Cayman S, but the sat nav isnt picking up any signal. I have chatted to a few people and they say the booster is behind the sat nav unit?

Just wondering has anyone ever tried to take the sat nav unit out? and is it easy enough to do?

Thanks
Steve

I'd check the GPS antenna first - on 997s it sometimes gets disconnected if work is done on the rear bumper and technicians omit to reconnect. Perhaps same on Cayman.

Thanks, there was work done to the rear of this car, so you might be right there. Sorry for coming across stupid, but i only had the car for 2 weeks, does anyone know where the GPS antenna is located on the Cayman S, and also what it looks like? Thanks again Steve

For a UK/Europe car the GPS antenna is mounted under the plastic trim between the bonnet and the windscreen. (I believe is is on the opposite side to the steering wheel, mine is LHD and the antenna is on the right side) It looks like this underneath the trim:

Had any work been done on the windscreen before you got the car? From watching my windscreen being replaced I seem to remember there are about 4 separate connectors from the windscreen elements. John

The Nav will tell you how many satellites it can detect by selecting one of the menus , try this before dismantling the car. There is a small black wire with a brass connection on the end that plugs into the GPS reciever under the windscreen cowl , the other end connects into the back of the DVD navigation drive in the front luggage compartment, it goes nowhere near the PCM head unit. The cable can become disconnected if the cabin pollen filter has been replaced during a service as the cable runs over the top of the panel filter.
