Remove vacuum hose and idle settles

Hi

A week or so ago i posted a question as to whether my fpr was dying because of an erratic idle.

I've been away during the week due to work and today i checked again but removed the vacuum hose from the throttle body and the idle settled to a normal rythmn.

Does anyone know why this might be and what it might indicate?

Ta ever so

could be because it now has an additional air supply to the inlet via the throttle body - prove that by blocking the little connection on the throttle body - if that is the reason it will return to idling badly - but I'm not sure if it might also draw air in through the little line - I can't remember where it goes to - block both and if it goes back to idling rough it shows it liked the extra air. If it doesn't make any difference I would hazard to suggest that what-ever is at the other end of the vacuum line is not doing it's job properly, or is itself the victim of a malfunction elsewhere...

What made you think of pulling this hose off to see what happened? I might try it on my Turbo! let me know if you pinpoint the problem as a result!

Tref,
I forgot to say yesterday that i blocked it off the throttle body yesterday and it returned to idling badly, which as you say proves that it needs the extra air.

I checked the air filter and there's no issue with that as its clean, which now leads me to the afm, or the signal from the computer. It hot starts ok.

In respect to the Fpr, i dont now think its that as the usual test of removing an injector lead doesn't improve things, just makes it worse.

Since, as soon as i increase the revs its all ok, smooth etc.

I the throttle switch working and correctly adjusted? A simple check is to manually open the throttle in the engine bay without the engine running - you should hear the micro-switch click as it opens and shuts - if it doesn't it is out of adjustment or broken. I am pretty sure that it is possible to put a meter on the switch and determine it simply enough as well. If it isn't working then it won't switch over to the idling circuit when the throttle is closed, and hence I believe the auxiliary air valve etc won't open and control the idle... I could be wrong on this, I can't remember how it works exactly now, but again, the throttle switch is a nice easy one to test.
