Last year i removed the rear seats and blind from my s2 and fitted a rear rollcage as i was really only using the car on the track, after removing the rear seats i covered the exposed metal with carpet but this never looked as good as i would have liked....i tried to get hold of a 968 cs rear carpet but couldn't get one any where except the dealer, so im at a bit of a loss now. Any suggestions to make this look proper will gratefully received.[;)][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'm told you can buy audio carpet, which is very lightweight nylon stuff, which can be easily heated up and moulded to shape.

Some spray glue will hold it in too.

And it's not heavy.

Thanks Oli... thats what i tried before but without heatiing it so it didnt form quite the right shape, how would you
suggest heating it to mould the right shape ?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Possible a hair dryer or heat gun would be useful. Another idea would be heavyweight plastic bags that could be filled with water, these would help press the carpet into shape once it had been heated. Once you have got the shape then spray adhesive to secure.

Cheers,

I would suggest a hot air paint stripper gun, as Fred said. Or putting smaller bits of the carpet under a grill for a while, before running out to fit them in the car.

Plastic bags with water in? Interesting ... maybe sand would be another option (make a lot less problems if the bag split.) But the idea is a very good one. Oh, and don't forget to take them out otherwise your weight-saving efforts will all be in vain. [:D]

Oli,
Water (or any liquid) has to take the shape of its container (unless its frozen but who wants to work on their car when icicles are forming on your nose!). Yes, sand is a better idea, certainly easier to hoover up in the event of the bag getting split.

Cheers,

Why do you want to recarpet anyway? What colour is your car? Mine is black and having removed the rear seats, carpet and sound deadening stuff, spent hours scraping off the glue and polishing the paint, i'm really quite pleased with the result! Considering an interior respray, rear-seats back, but don't know that i can be bothered. BTW, what cage have you got fitted?

Today i have removed every thing from the rear seats backwards carpet and sound proofing wise... but not sure if i should re carpet in the light weight speaker carpet to tidy things up, or paint the metal section which was under the rear seat as its a grey colour and leave it at that...the only thing that puts me off leaving it bare metal is that the front half of the car is still carpeted and i cant be bothered to strip the whole car due to the amount of work involved...the car and interior is black, black OMP seats and a roll cage form the Roll centre in black...[>:][FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Sounds great - what's the cage like? Sorry to bug you but I'm looking at getting one soon and I saw the Rollcentre guys at Autosport International and thought they offered a good product. Have you just got a half-cage in the back? Did you get a harness bar put in? Thanks, Ben.

Hi Ben,[FONT=verdana, geneva"]The car has got a half cage in the rear, when i contacted roll centre they could only supply a cage for a 944 without a sunroof but they could supply the same cage in kit form so i could make any adjustments my self which is what i ended up buying and doing....but i wouldn't do it again! i only had to trim the hoop down but there was other cutting work and welding to be done which i could of done without, didn't really save much by buying it in a kit form but got it sooner that the other suppliers could get it to me and i wanted it for my next trip to the ring, Havant got a harness bar fitted as i have used the rear seat belt bolt holes in the rear seat well, this is open for debate as many people say its to low and could cause danger to the driver in a roll over accident, but some also say its safe and when i contacted Schroth for advice they said there fitting diagrams say its safe fitting at these points as long as they don't go to the floor, so for now that's where they are but i am interested in fitting a harness bar which i can fit from the two front top seat belt points but Havant seen one any where to buy.... so if you or anyone nos where i might be able to pick one up that would be handy...[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Steve. Right, I seem to remember them saying something similar to me at the show about a non-sunroof car. Don't think I fancy making any 'adjustments' myself. From the looks of other roll cage threads on this site, it looks like the perfect solution is still yet to be found!

I know Safety Devices have had their troubles recently but I have one of their old rear cages and it seems of good quality (it's being fitted/modified at the moment). Might be worth speaking to them and asking if they still make it as it seems a reasonable road and track compromise.

When i was on the look out for a cage i was offered one by porsche shop but they had a 6 week waiting period, i think the price was around 4 to 500 squid built for a half cage... [FONT=verdana, geneva"]
