Ok. Am I being thick or what? I,m removing a door mirror to repaint on a 928, have the mirror removed from doors but still connected by wiring. but how the hell do I get the 2 block connectors through the stem? Don't want to just cut them. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I took mine apart once to change the motor unit. If you pull the mirror glass out you can then remove the motor unit. The wires in the back of the mirror can then be got at. You can also seperate the mirror back from the stem. I hope this helps. I would also suggest getting a workshop manual (cheap on ebay). I am always checking it for things.

Text from workshop manual.
REMOVING AND INSTALLING OUTSIDE MIRROR
1. Pry off clips on mirror glass with a putty knife on
backplate and disconnect contact plugs on glass
carefully.
2. Unscrew 3 screws through holes in backplate, take
off foam rubber part and pull off wire plugs.
3. Note wire positions in receptacle by colors.
Press in locks on each wire plug separately with
an extraction tool and pull out wires.
4. Unscrew fillister head screw on mirror base so
that mirror can be removed with the liner.
5. Install in reverse order
6. If wire harness in door has to be removed, take
off inside door trim panel and take harness out
of holders.
Hope this helps

Thanks James, seems to be a cock eyed way of removal. Why not just put a connector on it instead of hard wiring it into door loom. Hey ho. [&:]
