removing badges from body SAFELY

Hi Folks,

I am going to change the rear 'Carrera 4S' badges on the back due to them being poorly positioned ages ago after some light work. I have heard about using dental floss etc but has anyone got a fail-safe method that keeps paintwork intact and is relatively easy?

cheers,

Mark

Used dental floss to remove my Boxster badge in the past - i'd recommend warming the badge are with a hair drier first though, as the adhesive tape is pretty tough stuff.
I then had to remove the adhesive residues from the paintwork with a solvent based polish such as Autoglym Super Resin.
If you intend re-using the current badge you will have many a happy hour cutting double sided tape into shapes and slithers to reattach the badge - much easier to just buy another.

I used very hot [not boiling] water when I had to replace the badge on the rear of my Boxster. Do not use any paint remover, under any circumstances.

Dental floss coupled with fingernails seemed to work best after the use of the hot water. Watch out for the effect of the removal of the badge on paintwork which may have faded over the years.

Great care will have to be taken if and when any replacement badge is affixed.

got mine off with dental floss no problem - but they'd only been on a couple of months - needed to get them off as I'd screwed up putting them on after a respray (its IMHO a lot more diffcult than you might think as a tiny out of alignment is irritatingly noticeable) - was ultra careful with next ones - it can be done. I found lots of floss and slow and patient sawing motion gets you there

Oh yes. Some time ago most of the the rear badge on my Boxster came off and I had to replace it. I went into an OPC and someone [a trainee technician or work experience or a YTS scheme student?] suggested that I should use paint remover to help remove the 'evidence' of the old badge prior to fixing a new one. Something stirred in the brain of this non-techie [8|] and I decided to ask for guidance on the Boxster forum. Almost immediately I was advised to use very hot water and dental floss and finger nails. Paint stripper was a definite no-no.

I followed the suggestions and even managed to affix the new badge correctly in such a way that no-one could tell that there had been any replacement [:)] .
