Removing/cleaning rev counter glass - How?

Hilux

New member
A friend has a 997 TT 4wd

The rev counter has had condensation behind it which has left it water marked.

Is there a guide on how to remove the cluster/glass etc so it can be cleaned other than sending a trained hamster with a microfibre cloth up into the dash board?

He`s had some serious classic Porkers for years but never joined the club (hes not a club type) so I hope you dont mind me asking on his behalf.

Hopefully Richard H may know as it may be similar to the 996...
Personally I have no idea...[&:]

The 993 is the same as the 964 in this respect. The instruments have a metal bezel which has to be released from the front of the dial by easing the metal with a suitable tool - just enough for the bezel to come off. It takes a little bit of patience and care, but it can be done. Putting it back is similarly doable but the bezel will rarely look pristine again although if care is taken any damage will be hidden by the rubber grommet that surrounds the instrument once it's installed back in the dash.

I'm sure the manufacturers would have a special tool to do this but for the handyman a screwdriver will do the job. It's really just a matter of finding a suitable size blade, thin enough to get in there but big enough to be able to ease the bezel out. It's a "bit-at-a-time" operation so care and patience are the watchwords!!

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave
