Removing Headlights

Hi. Ive just joined the forum and was wondering if anyone could help with my problem.

I have a 2000 W reg 2.7 boxster and want to remove the headlights to fit new bulbs, im doing it the way it should be done by turning the screws anti-clockwise but the lights aint popping out and the thread just keeps turning.
Anyone come across this problem or know how to overcome?

Cheers Chris

I can't say this is going to help, but in 2002 I attempted to change the dipping direction of the Litronic headlights on my 2.7 Tip.and suffered a similar effect.
Don't laugh, but it turned out the hexagon spanner supplied had a hairline crack along one of the sides, and the spanner was just turning being such a loose fitting on the nut!
Hope this helps.

You need quite some force (and an accompanying loud crack sound) to release the headlamp unit. Sounds like you either have a rounded of release key or 'nut'. Check the end of your release key and maybe try a decent quality allen key instead.

You mean socket not allen key....The locking bars that secure the headlights are made of cheap metal and the hexagon end that the key drives on , rounds very easilly. New locking bars are only a few pounds, I suggest getting a couple before removing the lights so you can change them when the light is out , saving problems in future. If you can lay your hands on a set of metrinch sockets these work very well on rounded nuts.

Are you turning the right thing?

It is the hex thing under the rubber bung (which you have to remove) which releases the light - the other 3 under plastic tabs are adjustments and shouldn't be touched. It's surprising how many people have the wrong place...
Take note of the direction of release in the manual - force it too far the other way and you can break the carrier...[] Each light is "handed" (you remove in the same direction relative to the car, not the same way clockwise/anti-clockwise)

unfortunately my car didn come with it's manual, i'm sure im using the right hex nut for removing the lights, going by guidance found on the net.
the hex tool for removing the light doest seem to fit over the nut, instead ive been using a t bar with an allen key bit which came in a lil toolbox with the car which fits.

OK - here is the relevant page from the manual:

The manual really IS useful. You should be able to get a copy from Porsche for about £15. Strongly suggested.

ive been trying to undo the wrong nuts, ive been in the 3 flaps. cheers that's great [:D]

they that cheap are they? always thought they'd be more expensive was out bidded not so long ago on one on ebay which was around £40

well that was easy now i know which screw to be turning [;)]

unfortunately i was trying to unscrew the alignment screws due to a dodgy guide on the net and now have noticed my alignment is everywhere. my n/s headlight is going down and my o/s headlight is facing right up in the sky and now i have fitted HID's no doubt im blinding people. is re-adjusting easy enough or hard work?

First time I tried to remove the headlamp unit it was impossible! I thought I was doing something wrong.

The brand new and unused tool in the tool pouch just rounded off (soft metal) and it took me a while to figure out that this was the problem, as no one would expect this would they.

Using a good hexagonal tool and it came out easily and I now keep that tool in my pouch.

Sir, I am not technically competant. Yet I changed them in two minutes! They are a unit that slides out. All you need to do is get a tool from the tool kit that looks like a little prong with a hinge in it. Pull the black plug from inside the headlight once you have removed the carpet. Stick the prong thing in the hole and twist half a turn. It simply lifts the headlight up and forward. Easy.[;)]

As above i have done it and was easy, but i do not have the porsche manual and then found a guide on the net which was completely wrong therefore why i had a problem.

The headlight tool is missing from the kit in my car.

What size hex tool should be used to remove the unit?
