Removing Instrument Bezel/Glass.

Shortly after getting my car I posted on here about what appeared to be condensation on the glass of a couple of the instruments. On closer inspection it would appear to be a light film of grease or similar perhaps from handling in a previous life.
I got the instrument out with no problems but cannot remove the outer bezel holding the glass in place.

Can anyone here offer some tips or clues on the bezel removal, please?

Hmmm...I had the same problem and the only way I could get to the inside of the glass was to carefully lift the lip of the metal bezel with a little screwdriver. Not ideal, but once it's all pushed back into place, the edge of the bezel should not be visible.

If anyone has a better idea, I'd love to hear!

Thanks Roddy, I thought it might be a case of a small screwdriver and lots of patience and care. The bezel moves around the the gauge but doesn't want to pull off - but I guess you know that! Unfortunately, I cannot move the glass to a point where the marks are less of a feature.

Cheers.

Electric tin opener, that would work[:D]

Joking aside, I found if you get your finger nails behind the bezel with the clock still in the dash and you pull hard enough, the bezel eventually comes off, was not trying to get the bezel off at the time, was just trying to get a clock out of the dash.
Was hard trying to get bezel back on though, but did it in the end and more importantly, there's no visible marks to the bezel, unlike using the screwdriver method

How the blazes did you do that? A lip of metal is bent/tucked right round the instrument circumference! I can only assume that somebody has been in there before you?!

I though that at first, someone has had this off before, but no. It happened when I tried to take out the rev counter, I pulled the front off, when I got the rest of the rev counter out, I then pushed the other clocks out from behind and when i looked at them they were all factory sealed up tight.

It was only a few months later, when I took the gauges out again i relised it was definitely possible to pull the fronts off, as again i pulled at the rev counter and the front came off, so I though ill pull out the speedo instead and push out the others from behind, low and behold I pulled the front off the speedo. So I ended up pushing the gauge out with a stick via under the front bonnet.

What i would add is that i dont think it would be possible for this to happen on the smaller gauges and also my clocks were very very tight in the dash, there appeared to be the remains of some brown glue around the gauges, whether it was over spill from when they glued the material that covers the dash around the gauges, I dont no maybe, as i cant see porsche gluing the gauges in.

Hope this helps
