Removing passenger air-bag cover

I've got a terrible squeaking and knocking coming from the passenger airbag. 5 mins after starting it will start and it's constant above 5mph though it varies with road surface and quality. it's as loud as the radio.

Through various acrobatic manoeuvres on the motorway I've found that when I press the airbag cover in hard, it stops.

Is it possible to easily remove the cover? I'm assuming that it's probably held in with a couple of clips as it's designed to come out easily when you have a smash, but
1) am I likely to set it off and
2) how should I do it? Just lever it off with a flat blade?

I haven't removed one from a 993 myself but you will find it is designed to tear as the airbag deploys. So I definitely would not recommend this method for removal.

I too had a similar squeak, years ago when I bought the car. I worked a little vaseline around the edge of the airbag cover - since then no further problems in over four years.
