Removing steering wheel

Firstly disconnect the battery, then you should be able to remove the airbag from the wheel. On my 306 and the original hearse wheel there were torx screws holding it on from behind and with the hearse's new wheel there are clips you need to pus out of the way using a screwdriver through holes behind the spokes. The screws are much easier to work out and to unfasten! The airbag will be plugged into the wheel somewhere behind the pad.
Once the bag is out of the way it's just a wheel. Note that you really need to replace the bag with a resistor of the correct value (not a clue what it is) or you'll get an airbag light as soon as you connect the battery and turn on the ignition, and it will fail MoT with an airbag light on. You could take out the bulb, but a pound to a penny it also illuminates the big central warning light and you want that to stay working.

There's instructions on how to reset the dashboard airbag light if you manage to turn it on in the process (http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-12.htm).
