Removing Steering Wheel

I need to align my steering wheel. Can anyone help with a procedure to remove it. Presumably I disconnect battery and leave a while to disarm airbag. Any help appreciated as I have done a Forum Search to no avail.

Many thanks for your help. I bought car a few months ago and when driving straight ahead , the steering wheel is right hand down a bit if you get my meaning. So I want to go one spline notch to the left I think. I've had the geometry checked and it is ok.
