Removing Your Turbo Cycling Valve.

Paul (and any others who may be interested [;)])

Further to your recent postings, I understand that those of use who have Guru chip upgrades and Reliaboost valves no lnger require the Standard Cyling valve as this is not read by the Guru chip set. Indeed, this can actualy be detrimental to the correct function of the Reliaboost causing overboost.

Having extracted some information from a well known source I wonder if you could assist me.

I'm assuming that the "Cycling Valve" is item 29 (part no 951 606 117 00 timed valve).

This being the case, one could run a pipe direct from the Reliaboost to the wastegate and plug the inlet J pipe at point 12.

Is this correct?

Further assuming this to be the case, one could then either leave the Timing valve were it is (should one wish to return the car to its original specification, or remove the Timing valve and use one of the solid control pipes on branch "1" as a tidy route to the wastegate.

Thanking you all in anticipation of your assistance.

Spot on John

I like the 'tidy' idea too, but I still think it will mean taking the inlet manifold off as I just can't get my hands in there. I really want to do this now as my extra hose running along the fuel rail is not tidy at all []

Thanks Paul,

Sounds like there is goining to be two of us wipping off our manifolds at the weekend then.

Not me [] intake manifolds is beyond my limit of spannering.

I'll remove your wastegate and shim it if you do my manifold [;)]

Not that hard to take off the inlet manifold(more accessable than the wastegate) - biggest problem is fuel everywhere when disconnecting the fuel rail and a couple of fidly bolts. Once its off, if you take the plugs out you can shine a torch down the plug holes and have a good look at intake valves and a small section of the bores. There are instructions in the workshop manual - possibly in the removing the turbo section. I bought some alloy cleaner from frosts to clean it up with once it was off. You will probably need some new injector seals as they seem to be past there best by now if not changed. Lot of effort for tidy plumbing though!

If only we weren't so far appart!

I'm thinking that Tony may have a point - perhaps a worth while mod when the inlet manifold has to come off for something else, but a lot of poncing about otherwise. On the other hand I do want to clean under my manifold so that could be the excuse I'm looking for. [;)]

As a matter of interest, I e-mailed Danno "The Elusive" with the same query as per the start of this thread, complete with illustration. Now I whon't tell you, but you can guess if I've had a reply yet.

but you can guess if I've had a reply yet

Really wierd, but I had two emails from him last week asking how things were going and I hadn't even sent him an email???? Maybe I'm his favourite [:)]

ORIGINAL: 944Turbo - You will probably need some new injector seals

Maybe I will save both jobs for when I get 55lb injectors, bigger Turbo and shoot for 350bhp [8D] I will have another look at it this weekend though, as it is really just bolts to undo and do up again...........and then loads of new inlet leaks that weren't there before

As he obviously likes you [;)], perhaps you could ask him if he would like to reply to both Mr Cannell's and my recent enquiries.

Pondering the 350 bhp then? Why ponce around with small gains, go for the full 500 [8D]

I ordered my chips last week and got an almost instant reply, then had a couple of final questions (and mentioned Rick) nothing since!
I transferred some dollars yesterday though and it is down to 1.70 ish to the pound so at least stuff from the states is getting cheaper,
Tony

Had a reply from Danno, apparently he is waiting for a shipment of reliaboost valves, still no mention of Rick's missing items though, sorry
Tony

Not sure whether to get involved here or not, in the end I'll post the link and make no comment.

Thanks Fen, yes I have seen it, it prompted me to chase him up, he doesn't seem to have too much trouble doing the chip package, but I can understand the frustration of those waiting for MAP kits which seem to take a lot longer, especially as Danno seems to have trouble responding to mails and keeping the customer in the picture.

It's a bit of a "Chicken & Egg" situation but, if Andrew Sweetenham's proposed bolt on upgrade had been available previously, and I'd known then what appears to be the level of service (or lack of it) provided by Danno, I would have gone the buy British route.

But then, if we hadn't all been getting the Guru upgrade rather then DPWed & Wayned perhaps the UK bolt on kit wouldn't have come to be. [8|]

That's market forces for you, If there is no competition you can charge what you like [8D]

I am purely guessing but I think Danno has been a victim of his own success. Lots and lots of orders for Guru kit and as it is a part time concern for him he cannot keep up. I have always had no problems, and last week I emailed that I was running very slightly rich and had checked everything else out and he quickly replied that he will send me a replacement chip with 3% less fuel dialled in. I couldn't be happier [:D][:D][:D]
