Rennlist 964 meet at Donington Park

Donington Park, Castle Donington, Derby, DE74 2RP

Sunday 7th December, arrive 10.30am onwards, meeting behind the main grandstand pitboxes near the circuit and pitside cafe.

Final meet of the year to coincide with the Bookatrack trackday at Donington Park (various cars, not solely Porsche).

Donington has a restaurant serving drinks/meals/snacks which will be open, as well as the Grand Prix Collection exhibition (£7 museum entrance fee - although discounts for groups) and a large enough car park to cope with the biggest of all 964 meetings.

Roughly in the middle of the country, it should suit those from North and South so we're hoping that we can muster a good number of cars.

As an added extra on the day we will have an ARDS instructor, Tim Arnold, who subject to track time availability will take you around the Donington track in your own car. This will give you an insight into how 964s perform on track and how track driving differs from road driving.

Tim will treat your car with mechanical sympathy but I think you'll be surprised at just what it is capable of doing in the hands of a racing driver.

The trackday organisers, Bookatrack, will charge you £40 for the 20 minute session and it promises to be a real experience. If you've never been on track you will see your car in a totally different light.

You should check that your car is in sound mechanical condition before signing up for the experience and you will need to wear a helmet (if you don't have one we'll probably be able to find one for you to borrow).

Yes just to confirm, Jonny at BaT has kindly agreed, subject to availability, to let us buy 20 minute slots for £40 each for me to do demo/HSPR's in your car on the 7th if anyone is interested.

If anyone is unsure about it, I drove 'ChrisW' and '65mat' around Oulton the other day in their own cars, so they will be able to offer an opinion! [:)]

Tim has driven a couple of my cars before, so I can certainly vouch for his ability. God I wish I could drive like that! If you have never been driven by a "proper" racing driver then believe me, you are missing out![;)]
Count me in on a passenger session please Tim! See ya there mate.[:)]

According to the BBC weather forecast (here) it's looking very promising. Sunny weather with 1027mB pressure!! If it stays true to their word it could make for a really good turnout.

I'm still trying to get some confirmation from Donington about reserved parking but they seem keen to pass the task around like a football!!! I'll post again nearer the time if I find out more.

Regards

Dave

Dave, would love to be there but will be on the IOM at our cottage.
Have a great day.

Cheers,
Colin.

What sort of numbers would you be expecting (964 wise) for this?

Would a non 964 be welcome? I'm strongly thinking about purchasing a 964 in the new year so would be good to get a close look at a few :)

I wish I knew, I wish I knew!!! As with all of these things it will completely depend on the state of the weather on the day. Usually for a track oriented meeting we would normally get good numbers (for 964s anyway). Somewhere between 15 and 20 I'd guess. I wouldn't be shocked, on this occasion, if the weather is good, to maybe see 30. We occasionally get a few 993s and GT3s turn up too and other exotica is not unknown.

To be honest, if you're interested in 964s we don't really care what you turn up in!! These meets are as good a place as any to talk to experienced 964 owners and have a good look at the cars.

Hope to see you there.

Regards

Dave

I'm happy to wait at M1 J15A Services (Northampton) until, maybe, 9:45 if anyone wants to convoy from there. Donngton is approx 52 miles from there so 45 mins should get us on target.

Dave

For anyone starting via the M6 in the Northwest, a couple of us are meeting in the A500 layby which is just after the roundabout as you come off J15. We'll be there just before 10 am.

I have spoken to the people at Donington and they have suggested the following:
"On Sunday Bookatrack and their customers have exclusive use of Paddock 1 and the pit garages. I have spoken with security and we think it would be best if you park your members in the corner of Paddock 2 down by Redgate Lodge. This is a large enough area for you to park, away from the Bookatrack activities."
The paddock restaurant is actually in Paddock 2 so I suspect this plan will suit us quite well. Once you enter through Paddock Security jusy drive straight on to Paddock 2. It's quite a large open area so there is no need for them to cordon off anything specifically for us. Hopefully see as many of you as possible on Sunday. Weather is looking like "Sunny periods".

Dave
