Renting garage in Bristol...

Hi all.

Just wondering whether anyone knows a good place to rent a garage in Bristol? (Specifically Bedminster). Still looking to get my 944, but a bit wary of leaving it parked on the road. Was going to park it on the road under a cover, but read other posts on the forum about wind and covers being bad for a car, especially if the car isn't clean (which it certainly wouldn't always be).

So, I had a look on the internet for garages, but they were all a) expensive and b) in the wrong parts of Bristol. I've checked Gumtree, tradeit, freeads and so on. I seem to remember reading somewhere on this forum that the local council would rent garages, but I can't now find the post. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where else I could look?

Many thanks,

Giles

When I lived on a main road with no parking all the surrounding houses with drives and garages had regular notes through the door asking to rent. Occasionally one did become free, it was always the most recent note that won!

I've suggested the same thing to SWMBO, who might be needing to park in a town center for work, at £14 per day in the multi-story....there must be someone with parking they don't use whilst they're out at work.

I'd definately have a chat with your local council as they should be able to help. Around here (nowhere near Bristol) I think they cost about £30-40 a month although it can take a while for one to become free as there's often a waiting list.
Personally I'd also try a wanted advert in your local rag.

Thanks chaps.

Will investigate further, letter my neighbours etc. Or possibly just buy a house with a drive / garage!

try Property Services at local council and also try all the Housing Trusts in the area like Magna West Somerset, North Somerset ,United Housing etc they often have spare garages to rent. Probably best to ask for the Housing Dept.

Just found another website that may be of interest Parklet.

I'm now thinking of trying to get on the councils list here as I'm a bit concerned about parking my finished car on the street during work as I normaly do [8|]

Thanks to you others as well...

Peter, how long did you park it on the street for? Any problems at all? I live on an apparently nice street (semi pedestrianised), but I'm sure it can be a bit less nice from time to time in the early hours of the morning, plus it's not always possible to park actually on the street I live on. I just don't really want to be wondering if the car's OK...

The cars has been parked on the street during the day (some times a busy main road, but most on a quiet back street) for the last couple of years. I've never had any problems, but then my car has always looked pretty well worn so I've never been that worried about it till now. I'd have thought a pedestrians area you should be ok as long as it's not on the main route back from the pub! Perhaps it might be an idea to install some CCTV if you're worried about it.
