Repair tyre or not?

I noticed that the nearside rear tyre on my C4 had lost a few psi the other day so I took it to a local tyre centre to get it checked out. They found a small nail in the tread but refused to repair the tyre because they found a barely visible circular indentation around the inside of the tyre which they said was due to running the tyre at low pressure and was indicative of potential damage to the side wall.
I know that most people will say better safe than sorry but the tyre in question is barely 1000miles old and I have since found out that this particular tyre centre is known for turning a tyre repair into a sale oppurtunity. I also know from previous experience that the cost of a new tyre from them will be more than the usual supplier I use.
Any comment particularly on the reason for the indentation on the inside of the tyre which strangely is on only one side of the tyre rather than both which I guess you would expect if it had been caused by running the tyre at too low a pressure.
Oh yes, they've also damaged the rim when removing the tyre

Very few tyre centres will repair an N-rated tyre under any circumstances... Have persuaded a tyre place to do a very simple straightforward nail through the tread repair before, but they would only take cash and refused to produce any paperwork!

I split a sidewall, avoiding white van man on a narrow road, on a brand new rear tyre last year - after just 100 miles! Sickening...

The indentation could be the result of going over a speed hump so that just one side of tyre got compressed.

Annoying as it is to junk a tyre after only 1000 miles, my view has always been that it's a false economy to risk using a damaged tyre on a high performance car. The consequences of it letting go at speed are just too serious to take the risk. I had a rear blowout (tyre off the rim) at over 100 years ago on a (thankfully) empty motorway & it's not an experience I would wish to repeat.

That's what comes of not proof-reading before posting. It was a MKII Escort if you really want to know.

I think anyone who saw TG last night will not want to take any tyre risks :-O

Was it a MkII RS2000 by any chance ? I had one of those many moons ago - great car.

Nope, it was a BDA1600 engined ex-rally job. Sadly, not actually mine, but an absolute animal for its day.
