[FONT=Arial"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Thought I may get more sense from you guys rather than post the question on the Boxster, 968 or carrera 3.2 sites!. I'm selling my 924 (sorry) but dont know what to replace it with, a Boxster, late 80's 911 or a 968. anyone any thoughts on the subject ?.
The reasoning behind this is that a good 3.2 carrera is roughly the same as some 968's I've seen, a Boxster can be financed via opc for about the same as a loan for the other two.
Does that make sense ?.

968s and older 911s have done the bulk of their depreciation, and values have been holding up well. Boxsters have a fair bit of depreciation yet to go, so not such a good capital bet, although proably cheaper in revenue terms.

eek thats a hard one! the first problem youve got is nothing beats a 924 for fun per pound..i guess most people would move up 944 968 then 993. id suggest a 944 turbo or if you want a more modern look a 968. it would be worth driving a couple of 3.2 carreras because they are a lot different to the front engined cars with floor hinged pedals, and a long gearlever etc and many people prefer something more user friendly (will the wife drive?) a boxster probably looks cheap on a fancy pcp but most of my customers say the final payment creeps up too soon and you will have to trade in the car to cover it or get another loan. depends if you can live with driving a car that you owe as much as its worth, or more in some cases..another consideration is yearly mileage and is it your only car???

Well Keith,
Its a second car that wont get used much as I go to work on a bike, however I wont be allowed to tinker around with it like I have to do with the 924 to keep it in tip top running order. I could see myself "playing" around alot with a 968 to get it to the condition I would want, Cant see that going down well with her indoors. Lookin for a long term investment though, one that I can "play around" with once the kids have gone and she wants me out of the house. Also I can see it may be easier to get her into a "modern" car should she need to drive it. Have to say its a problem as I would go for the 968 having driven the 3.2 Carrera its not something she would use or I could use every day should the bike have to go to!. However the Boxster may be easier to live with !.
Problems problems.

i found a lack of space when using a 911 after a 924, the hatchback cars are much more practical, find a lot of wifes wont drive an sc or 3.2 carrera, one attempt and thats it, sounds like you want to go the boxster route, you wont tinker with that cos you cant see the engine............this weeks GT mag (march) would be worth buying, essential guide to 968, and living with a 3.2 carrera for 30 days, where they thought it was an old fashioned weekend toy, but concluded you could use it everyday as long as you dont spend time stuck in traffic, have a strong sense of humour and a strong left leg..

Tough one [:)]

I personally would go for a Boxster as it is the newest generation Porsche, and still looks great, even next to the revised model.

I'm not sure you could go far wrong with any of the models you are looking at really [:)]

Let's be controversial here. Try a 928 s4. Big on grunt, practicality of the rear hatch, wont cost an arm and a leg to buy, and wont be that expensive to maintain as a second car unless something large breaks. Get one that has had the cam belt done.

What was that white blur?

After my 924S I want a 968. I like the lay out and I like the more modern look and I like the idea of 3 litres. I also like the idea that they seem to be getting close to the £10k mark!
I'm not convinced about the Boxster.
I had wanted a 928, but only for the rather bigger rear seats (to persuade myself it was really a family car) But the potential costs of collapse put me off.

No mention of any non-Porsche alternatives (yet) I see.
