Replace dashboard lights

I am trying to replace the dash light behind the temperature guage. The book says that you can push out the modules, but I am reluctant to use excessive force. If it try to remove the whole dash it looks it looks as if I will have to remove the steering wheel and switches. Does anyone know an easy way to get at the light bulb?

Hello John

My temperature guage light is also inoperative - I will get a new bulb and have a go myself - I would rather chance popping the pod out rather than removing the dash! [:)]

HI Paul John,

I had to replace the bulb in my fuel gauge. I found I could reach up behind the dash and change it. I realiese the temp gauge is higher up but you might find you can reach it, with out removing anything.

Terry

The circular instruments in the main binnacle are simply a push fit. If you push the instrument from behind, and place the fingers of your other hand near the edge of the circular hole you should find the main instrument will just come out. A little side to side or up - down motion might give some encouragement.

The greater danger is actually being too enthusiastic when pushing the gauge back in.

There is one main instrument connector, plus earth and the instrument lights themselves. You "should" disconnect the battery first.

Good luck !

I did manage to get the old bulb out by sticking my hand up behing the dash, but can not get the new one to fit properly. I also found that I had to take the steering wheel off the be able to get up under the dash. I did not mention that I am a bit arthritic so that does not help!

I will have another go at pushng it out. I am a bit paranoid as I tried to get the central console apart once and that shattered when I used a bit too much force.

The extra distance does seem to make all the difference. As I said in my other reply, I did manage to get the old bulb out as you suggest, but I can't get a good enough grip on the new bulb to make it fit properly.
